I can't stream Netflix/720p with 100mbps FTTH, this is with Fibrehoods/Vox capped.

My old 20Mbps VDSL/Afrihost was much, much better.

IMO FTTH is vastly overrated.

I may have to change back.

something is wrong, streaming doesn't even tickle the connection, I can have three streams running in HD and still download at crazy speeds off torrents (over 5MB/s) and still play Quakelive with no latency issues.

lol are you joking? Obviously there has to be a problem. Comparing proper fibre experience vs DSL is like comparing chalk & cheese. I suggest you phone Fibrehoods and ask them to investigate.

I enjoy similar luxuries on my 100mbps fibre. This could be an issue in your area?

Seeing quite a few reports of issues with Vox/Fibrehoods specifically...

Has anyone found a solution to the vox/fibrehoods issue. Local server speedtest is close to 100Mbps, but as soon as I try and stream from offshore servers I cannot even get 720p. My speedtest to london server is never over 10mbps.

Sounds like packet loss on the local leg of the trip.
Do a wireshark sniff of a local speedtest. See if you have a lot of retransmits/dup packets.

Just came across this thread now when I was going to post about my connection issue.
MTN 100Mbps, full speed to local servers. Was trying to stream Quickybaby on Twitch this evening and I was buffering like crazy. Checked speed to international server and this is what I'm getting. Tested to a UK server

Ping 203ms
Down 5.35Mbps
Up 10.63

That's pretty freaking dismal. I've honestly never checked before because I've never had an issue with buffering.

Thanks a stack. Let me try that! Are there any specific filters on wireshark that I can use to pick up dup packs?

Dismal indeed! Hopefully it's just a temporary problem with MTN. I've seen many speedtests in other forums where local and international are not too different which gives me hope that it's not a national problem!?:whistling:

Thanks Sinbad... did a wireshark sniff analysed on an IO Graph. Doesn't look like too much of an issue with duplicates or retransmits on local speedtest. I may be wrong, but a max of 2600 duplicate and retransmits packets out of 16000 per second doesn't seem that high (16% max)? Doesn't seem to justify the difference in speeds between local and intl speedtest. Appreciate the recommendation though.

Did get higher than usual on Intl speedtest probably because I used ethernet.

AT&T Speedtest

Your Test Results (Tested on 2/2/2017, 10:23:06 PM)
Download Speed HELP 80.5 Mbps (10062.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed HELP 19.66 Mbps (2457.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency HELP 135 ms

Fast.com 74Mbps

The speed is there when I need it (Steam, Netflix, YouTube, ...) Line has become more stable over the 18 months. Teething issues on new networks I guess.

2600 is significant. There should be close to zero.
Each dropped/retransmitted packet's entire tcp window has to be retransmitted after your client ASKS the server to retransmit. So that tcp stream stops for the duration of the latency between client and server. Your receive window is also shrunk automatically which also affects throughput.

For the record, this is the exact symptom I was seeing with CW on Vumatel.
It turned out to be a faulty piece of network equipment at Vuma...

As long as I can stream UHD/HDR, I'm happy. I'll probably for a 25mbps

So I think we pretty much covered the "possibilities" - it's time to vote which ISP is the best to use on an OpenServe 100MBPS service? Pitty VOX doesn't have official capped Fatpipe products for OpenServe Fibre.
