Possible to open a US bank account from SA?

Hi Guys,

wondering if anyone has had experience with this...I would like to open a bank account in the US.

I am being paid from a US investor from next month and i would like to have that transferred into a US account.

Any pointers or information would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a social security number? Or are you not American?

If he was American wouldn't he at least have a bank account already?

I've got an American passport and I don't have an account there

The short answer is no, not really. Every option leads to some stumbling block. Unless you have a US address, there is no practical way to have a US bank account.

Don't dodge the tax man he will come looking for you. Rather let the money come to South Africa that way the tax man can have their share

I heard you can open an account as a non resident in state Delaware, but more research into that is needed.

Well I just opened a EU one, so I'd imagine US is possible somehow too.

if you own a business, you can open an account, but note then it's a strong possibility you could / would be taxed by the IRS. it's best to hire a law firm that specializes in this area to help move you through the obstacles.
