Possibly the worst load-shedding we have ever seen coming to South Africa - Expert

That De Ruyter bloke from eksdom is all over the news this morning saying we will have very little loadshedding this winter.
Odd, an expert says we are going to have the worst loadshedding of our lives and the Eskom Boss says we are going to have very little? I wish one of them was AA/BEE, it would be so easy to tell which one is telling tales.

Same. I'm torn between buying another bicycle or a bigger generator.

Very little can mean Stage 1 most days ( a little bit of loadshedding every day).

Surely there are much more efficient energy sources for things like smelters?
I mean I can attest that using gas to heat water, the house, cook food, is cheaper on my pocket than using electricity.

In theory yes. The problem is that we don't have proper gas pipeline infrastructure, and the Zupta/Eskom mess diverted attention from this much more workable solution. It would cost tens of billions, but would be worthwhile in the long run. See:
Kramer said the opportunity for infrastructure investment was huge and we needed to grasp the opportunity.

“Or,” he warned, “we can carry on what we are doing since the announcement of Operation Phakisa (a government initiative unveiled in 2014 to fast track the implementation of solutions on critical development issues) and hold talks about talks about talks.”

Fellow South Africans,

This evening, I stand before you to ask you to endure even more.

If you do the math - it is not. Especially at the rates the smelters get electricity.

There's a big difference between what's best for the company, and what's best for the country. The external costs (air and water pollution, health & safety) of using coal-fired plants to generate electricity are enormous. But these are paid by the taxpayer, not the consumer,

South Africans can expect to be hit hard by load-shedding before the end of June 2020, according to energy expert Ted Blom.

Blom told MyBroadband that as demand increases due to heavy industry, such as mining and smelting coming back online, Eskom could face problems from as soon as next week.

Chris Yelland tells Ted Blom: You're talking nonsense fella!

Which one was was right after all?

Did we have world ender load shedding by start of july / end of june 2020?

Obviously we didn't, but I'm wondering how much the Covid lockdown affected this and how much money has been burned by running the diesel emergency generators to keep the grid up? Can someone with the figures enlighten us please?
