Post Office dodges liquidation, gets placed in business rescue

Just like the SAA, the Post Office cannot be saved.

The same government that collapsed it will also not be able to turn it around.

Time to liquidate it and close it down. The private sector can deal with postal services. Just a few laws that must be changed.

I think it needs to be kept alive in some form, purely because we need some sort of national postal service for international government run postal services to deal with.

I mean, if someone sends a letter from US to SA via the US Postal Service, who do USPO hand the letter over to once it leaves their border? I guess all other 194 countries could strike up deals with private couriers in SA ... but that seems impractical and more likely the foreign country will just say "No we aren't going to deliver your letter to SA".

The best we could probably get (outside of a functioning government postal service) is for the SAPO to exist only as an entity that accepts international parcels, then hands the parcel off to a local courier company that has the required BEE qualifications and has slid a few million rand under the table to SAPO for the contract.

“In the international context, the interruption of the Post Office’s international obligations might have dire consequences for all South Africans who use the postal services of other countries,” she said.
Jirre judge, grow some balls. We are already suffering as tax payers. They owe over 4 billion to creditors. What about all the jobs/financial losses of those companies? They're forever in debt.

Pussy footing around government maladministration, malfeasance and mismanagement does not help us.

Van der Schyff’s judgement mentions that the Post Office now owes creditors over R9 billion.

Total bailout will be R6.2 B

As it is, many overseas online platforms are not willing to ship goods to SA. You can arrange for UPS, Fedex ... etc though. $$$$

In SOE terms, liquidation is a fail but business rescue is a 30% pass, right? Well then, bonuses all round
