Post Office warns workers to get own medical cover after failing to pay R700 million

Thousands of South African Post Office workers could be without medical aid cover from next month after the entity repeatedly failed to pay employee medical scheme contributions to Medipos.

MyBroadband has seen an internal communique sent to Post Office employees by the company's human resources (HR) department, advising them to take out their own medical aid cover to avoid being without protection.

Heard the cheque for the medical aid company is in the mail. Tracking indicates that an ostrich has it in its mouth and running up the N3 currently

Surely deducting money and not paying it over breaks a number of laws? Deducting tax and not paying SARS has got to be a severe penalty (criminal even??).
Nothing surprises me anymore.
It is illegal for employers not to pay tax on behalf of their employees. But we all know that poor cadres in the post office cannot be held to those racist laws that the private sector has to.

Maybe the ANC realized that they might lose control in 2024 and are now taking the last bits of money that is left.
And they still cannot pay their own staff salaries.

Even if the ANC lose control in 2024, good luck for any party that is taking over. Long and hard road ahead of them to fix EVERYTHING that the ANC has broken down.
Except the EFF, Malema will be smiling in his mutli-million rand house and vacations in Spain while his minions break down Clicks stores because of hair shampoo.

This would have been funny if it was not this serious.

SARS muddled my business with another with a similar name
No warning, received a summons for unpaid PAYE
Seeing I de-registered in 2014 I figured it was not for me

The amount was only R35000. Just goes to show that the PO can not pay millions and not be penalised

"The South African Post Office (Sapo) reportedly owes Medipos over R700 million in medical aid contributions that were deducted from staff’s salaries but never paid to the scheme" is the definition of criminal fraud... CFO Or someone should be held criminally liable.

Also - let's remember this when next certain politicians moan about how "public enterprises" are better than "private ones" and how privatising is a "bad thing".
Trying to remember when last a jumbo private sector employer failed to pay over PAYE after deducting it from employee salaries. Let alone got away with it....

Ugh. This is not what is meant by natural attrition.

Unfortunately taxpayers on the hook for poor management of SOEs.

We'll continue to see this across all Gov departments. Watch out when it's the police and SANDF not getting paid cause then its coup time...
