Power inverters for home use in South Africa roundup - February 2023

My 2c go for the Victron you will not be sorry, go for the 5kw Multiplus II as it can be paralleled and has built in anti-islanding. For the MPPT if you want lots of expansion room or have lots of roof faces 450/200 MPPT with 4 trackers is a beast.
Except that will cost you a lot more than 2c. The 5kW Sunsynk/Deye (which can be paralleled and has built in anti-islanding) and two MPPTs is probably half the cost of the Victron setup.

Isn't 450V x 200A = 90kW?

I am a big fan of Victron (that is my setup) but the cost comparison isn't fair - Victron is not an integrated package - you need a seperate Mppt, Cerbo, Busbar, Power Meter etc. I personally like a componetized system because you can repair/replace a component that goes wrong instead of an entire integrated system BUT it is quite a bit more expensive.

Sun S-1000 cost me R1100 and does great for basic things I need, like pc and sound

I bought mine at a dodgey place called kc's electric or something.

Don't get me wrong though. It's noisey xD And no idea on what the life is going to be. Probably the doggiest that can be bought

I see there are others that match the price on takealot just not the one I posted

Yeah, I liked that about our old Victron system, it was expensive though but the inverter was a little tank despite only being rated for 3kVa.

Tell us more

Multi II 5kva goes pop & they wouldn't honour any warranty/replacement on it siting "possible power surge"
I say cool, where's any proof of that - heres the logs where's any sign of this surge? - nada response to that.
Nothing else in the house blew either.

Took it up with Victron direct after that - they never looked into it & just fell back to the distributors decision.
Will be a Sunsyk buy if i have to again.

Good article thanks. More like this please.

Got a bit of a drubbing for my comments on the last article about "what you should know about going solar". Not going to respond to any of that.

Ja I remember. It's not what you say, it's how you say it.
