Power Plans - may as well pack your bags

Look at the background, "A national partnership to build a better life for all" :D

Has the link moved? It doesn't work for me.

"Government is confident that a solution is underway to address the problem of electricity crisis in the country," said Maseko.

Isn't that the reason Mr Maseko? Hoping that a solution is underway to address a crisis!

Watch the video clip on the right, then just laugh - or cry.

I has a look at it and realy cant say anything...I'm speechless...Thats one thing about these guys...As soon as you got them cornered, they'll take a turn...You corner them there, they'll make ANOTHER turn...Long story short...its no use arguing with these guys. The only thing we can do now is....well, maby call it a day. Cause with THESE guys...there realy is no f'n hope :(

What I find is these spokespersons are so very very bad at their jobs.
A good spokesperson is like a good stage magician. He will distract you, and slip the ace up his sleeve - and you will never notice he did it.
With ANC spokespersons its like:
"I *saw* you put that Ace up your sleeve"
"No, I didn't"
"I can see it! There it is, sticking out!"
"Oh look! A flying bird!" points out window
" :-0 " incredulous

True, the Israelis always seem to have very good spokespeople actually.

And be DECISIVE.
Even if you are wrong, or obviously lying - carry it through with conviction and determination.
Umming and aaaahing and sweating and fiddling speaks volumes.

In this case - have ONE "plan" that people can get behind - and go with it - with full steam. Did they really think not one journalist would ask "What plans do you have?"

A simple "We are going to give a tax rebate equivalent to 20% of the cost of a solar geyser to who ever installs OR installed one - including people who have done so in the 2006-2007, and 2007-2008 tax year".

Done - now, STICK to that - if pressured, simply answer, with a big smile "people can expect us to be at least as generous with some of our other energy saving plans we will announce, thank you for the time ladies and gentlemen".

Easy, huh?

Maybe you should send in your CV. :D

It really is that simple though.
People want to know that you have a plan, people want to know that government is willing to give something, and people want leadership.

Anything they would lose on the "geyser rebate" would be gained back by people blowing the SARS cheque at the local mall anyways.
And, since they are very likely to have to do this geyser thing anyways, why not make that their "plan scapegoat"?

Perhaps I am over simplifying things, but three days of talks must have come up with ONE plan. FFS - offer rebates on a Weber braai! It cannot be that hard.

Who is PAYING for the plans?
If the Govt done what they were supposed to do, the power stations will all be built... at 10 years ago construction prices...

Who is footing the bill for the things at 10X the cost of the original 10year ago quotes. Where is concrete going to come from ? Gautrain and WC2010 have maxed out the supplies already.

Who is going to pay! .. and if its the Taxpayer, Trevvie needs a wakeup smack.

The only thing that That videoclip provides, is that the guy who's standing there is an id!ot with no answers - other than that the videoclip is pretty uninformative!.

LabAnimal - precisely.
If that is the best guavamint can haul out of their collective thinking holes, we are in deep trouble.

The problem with this guy is that he is been expected to represent a government that they don't have a clue what they are doing beside filling up their pockets. I really feel sorry for him

Err, this is the same man who spends over R100 000 on lunch.
I feel nothing but contempt for him.

EDIT: it is him? a bit of Alzheimers Light today.
