Poweralert Stage 3 (old news)

Cooler weather in Jo'burg next week BTW, and that Wed. is predicted to only reach a max of 15.
But looks like they're handling things fine for now, this thread could just about sleep until summer.
With all the disguised loadshedding now called load reduction? And all the diesel being burnt at the rate of knots? Never! this thread must remain active to expose them.

This thread was never for that malarky.

Nice to see the Champ winning a point, so few available to his party these days..

Still waiting on the below

Burning diesel at a rate of knots... We know they are just holding off for the elections, it will all crumble down, you just wait and see.
The dashboards are all a lie.. You know this. All the coal stations are broken and it's only diesel keeping the lights on.

It's only an achievement because many of the paying customers have left, demand is lower, and industry has shut down. If cheap electricity was still available, economic growth would be significantly higher. In other words, 6 wasted years...
None of that has any effect on the generation. The fact that Eskom can supply 35GW doesn't have any correlation with demand going down.
Not sure where people think that the above has anything to do with generation.

It's an improvement in the sense that they struggled for years to consistently generate above 30G. So, improvements have been made by seemingly going back to basics. The bar was low as they created the problems but an improvement however you wanna spin it.

This is the EAF

The green is the % of available capacity Eskom has to dispatch
1721801819001.png
This is the demand, the pink and orange are tracking the demand, you'll see that it's actually not that much lower than it was previously, the fact that Eskom is still able to supply 31GW without load shedding in winter is good, the highest we went in the last 4 years for demand was 34GW when it was really cold, previously the highest was 38GW in 2014 roughly.
So even with apparently businesses closing and demand going down, there is still over 30GW demand, which if this was last year wouldn't have been able to be met at all cause the EAF last year was

So Eskom could at most supply 25GW out of the 30 to 34GW required in winter, while now they've managed to supply 28 to 35GW
In fact here is the current financial years EAF, it's been improvements throughout

None are related to demand, burning diesel or or any other excuses, Eskom is actually doing something right.

The reduced demand means they can do actual proper maintenance. Previously they were running everything 24/7, and equipment kept breaking. Perfectly logical IMO...

Not really considering that last year the unplanned was sitting at 37%, so it was out of action anyway but demand was still sitting where it is now. The unplanned is now sitting at 20 to 25% which is a massive improvement.
Demand hasn't gone down as much as people seem to think, at most the drop would be during the day where it doesn't really matter as you'll see that on an energy grid the peaks are from 4am to 10am and 4pm to 10pm (thereabouts) the day period demand is always a bit lower.

Look at Thermals like 26GW?? Don't think I've seen that
Indeed. Also, look at all that coal ramping up and down like peaker plants, and also I've never seen almost no wind before. How much are they pumping back during the day there on the 22nd? (I can't check, my PC is on the fritz and my laptop doesn't have all the links saved).

Barely any wind and pumped storage used
