Hi Everyone.

We have had a couple of calls from customers claiming that they are getting authentication problems on their routers once their ISP details has been entered into the router.

Please note that this is not a problem on our routers and is concurrent through all the different makes and models of routers. If you get this problem it can be one of the following:

1. Check the spelling of the USERNAME and PASSWORD.
2. You might be capped, so check with your ISP.
3. Lastly: Phone Telkom and tell them to do an ADSL port reset on your line. In most of the cases this has resolved the problem.

This is just a little bit of info to help you guys out and abit of trouble shooting you you can do on your side.

Hope it helps!!

Anymore questions you know where to reach us. ;)

Why the problem Now?

I have never had any issues up to today with my Billion modem. Today I have issue with authentication? What has changed? I dont want problems again tomorrow. it has a taken age to try to sort this out so far. I am still not good at the moment. Telkom have logged a fault now but I'd hate for them to tell me that its actually the modem that is incompatible with some network upgrade or another.

So where does the problem actually lie? Right now i have an office full of people looking at me for internet connectivity and I have none(OK i have a 3g card but its not an aternative for the whole office.).

Yesterday there was no problem and today there is. My ISP cannot see my attempts to login. The telkom guest account does not connect and all i get is error 678. Most frustrating.

What model are you using?
Have you phoned Telkom to do an ADSL port reset?

Hi there

Yes they have done the port reset twice. It is a 5102S running firmware 2.6.0.0(UE2.B1C)3.3.2.5 in bridge mode. I can ping some telkom ips( 196.255.25.3 and 196.255.25.34) but when i dail up using any account (telkom guest or IS or SAIX ) i get an error 678 message. The modem is synching fine.

Drop me a call at 033 3446000.

How widespread is this problem? I've been without ADSL since monday now, and have tried all the possible solutions mentioned in this thread.Trying to get a Telkom technician out is becoming very painful.

Hi Walterg

We have encountered this problem since the 4mb/s lines came into action. And yes it is the whole of SA.

PM me your contact details and we can have a chat about your problem.

Sorry to Hijack! I just bought a new billion router and it rocks! They are a "billion" times better than marconis or anything else i've seen. There is a big improvement in surfing and bandwidth management.

Anybody who has dsl or is getting dsl must buy one of these they are trully excellent.

The 7300 or 7300g and all the other ones is really money well spent. Everything works first time and the interface is really simple and stable.

Well done billion! its a real quality product!
