30,000 strikers expected in Uber and Bolt national shutdown

The Public Private Transport Association (PPTA) expects at least 30,000 drivers from Uber, Uber Eats, Bolt, Bolt Food, InDriver, and Mr D Food will partake in a national shutdown of e-hailing and app-based delivery services on Thursday, 24 March 2022.

That is what PPTA's founder Vhatuka Mbelengwa told eNCA on Monday.

If there's an oversaturation of drivers, why does it always take longer to get a ride than pre pandemic. I've seen other people complaining about same on twitter.

Maybe it's just because drivers have no reason to hang around where I live now that people work from home.

This is very anecdotal, but I'm certainly not feeling the oversaturation.

Getting sick of the average Joe Soap in South Africa having to suffer because of other morons who feel entitled to do what they want without any fear of reprisals......

If they want to strike, fine...go strike somewhere near where Squirell lives...
But if they obstruct and become a nuisance to the public...then fkg shoot them...repeatedly

30 000 idiots who think that refusing to earn an income will convince others to do something. Just like hunger strikers, punishing themselves to 'force' someone else's hand. I wish you luck, you'll need it. Why not strike forever. Let people who realise work is a privilege, not a right, take your places.

Sounds like they need to break down the costs further to include a fuel variable value, because I promise you when the oil price comes down there is zero chance these muppets are going to be happy to see the fair rate come down.

100%

There a power triangle between government, trade unions and companies. The power shifts in that triangle.
Unfortunately, the alliance between government and unions is so indistinguishable, that in SA we have a line and the balance of power is skewed towards government and the unions, and that's why the ANC believes it can create jobs, and strikers feel that they can go on the rampage and make demands.

None of the ANC policies or labour unrest is conducive to job creation in the private sector. This is borne out in the unemployment rate, the increasing number of strikes, the divestment of businesses, the outflow of capital and the decline in property rights and safety.

The free this and free that is in direct contrast to getting a job and earning goods or services. But freebies and allowing people to do as they please is the ANCs ticket to power.

And when it goes pear shape, apartheid is to blame. Only yesterday CR went on to blame the past - yet again.

How exactly do "gig" workers go on strike?

What do they hope to achieve, other than piss their customers off and make them find other options to achieve their requirements.

R10 says you will find an ehailer that is still running and making extra bank since the other muppets aren't working...
I hope so. I really do. I heard on the radio that they attacked and disarmed a cop in an unmarked car after mistaking him for a cab driver. And one driver phoned in a note saying he got a request, and when he accepted got a warning that they know he's working now.

And let me guess, the cops are "Monitoring the situation" as always.. fscking useless twats.

The group that attacked and disarmed a cop should all be in the holding cells already, and every one of the other twats that interferes with someone else earning a living or block a public road should also be in the bloody holding cells.

One of the attackers already arrested.

Wow, btching about operating at below cost and still doing the job ? Sounds like dogsht manufactured drama.

You have to be the dumbest sot in the kot if you do a job that you end up in the negative day after day due to costs incurred being higher than income generated.

The media even publish such retrded comment is the next leap of hilarity.

Last I heard specifically for Uber there is a huge backlog of people who want to be drivers but can't become one since Uber is maxed out in pretty much every area.

This is going to be the easiest way for Uber to clean up their sheet and fill the spots with the backlog of drivers.

But we all know these self employed unskilled workers think they should be getting medical, leave, child care, etc. from a "Earn as your work" job.
