I would like to know the logic behind OOB on prepaid.
If your bundle is depleted and you have an airtime balance, this is the rate at which it is consumed.

Sounds like a serious fail from Vodacom.

But just shows that you cannot use it for anything else, ie don't load any airtime on this.

Ok. But... the whole point of prepaid is not to be OOBed.

MTN has that (2 gig p/m) without OOB. Why don't VC?

In fact that is my current setup in my tablet... which was actually great since it avoided OOB the first time I didn't know about mymagazine and its eating habits.

If you don't want to go OOB then simply don't load any airtime. It's that simple.

And do you propose one makes calls from the phone?

Good point, to be honest I've only ever used this promo for use with a 3G router, didn't occur to me that you would want to use it with voice. I guess that does kind of suck then.

What it normally means?

A. When data is finished it is finished and klaar. No nasty pay offs to the provider...
Still don't get it. What happens once the data is finished, can't you top up?

Edit: Please post a link to this MTN bundle.

Sigh.

When the data is used up:

1. There is no more data.
2. It functions like hard cap.
3. You need to buy more data.
4. You are not oob raped.

I'll go and look at the bundle I'm on for my tablet...

Thanks for your efforts. I did not know such a package was possible.

I downloading the yellow trader and perhaps that will help. I could not find the place where you can see what prepaid, topup or even contract data bundles they have. Perhaps this is all hush hush and you need to log in first...

I am not sure where you came up with this, but prepaid has always had OOB, the only difference is you could control it by not loading massive amounts of airtime for voice calls at a time. On a contract you cannot control it, since if you go over your limit it just accumulates the charges and "bills" you at the end of the month.

If this is something new, that would be great.

Example : You have R50 airtime and a 1GB data bundle, you then deplete your data bundle and continue browsing the web. Once you use 25mb R2x25 your airtime is also depleted and you can no long make calls or browse the web, you then buy another 1GB data bundle and R50 airtime.

Another scenario is once your 1GB runs out, you notice and buy another bundle and still have the R50 for voice calls or you have the sim in your Ipad and it only has data bundles, no airtime in which case once your data bundle reaches zero you need to recharge.

On Telkom Mobile once the data bundle is finished, traffic stops (even there is airtime on the account) and Web browser is redirected to the TM WEB site. On this WEB site you can opt for OOB. If you ignore it, you will never be charged OOB. I use one prepaid PSB Promo SIM and couple R49 starter packs 200MBx12. It works always as above. Load another data bundle and go again...

In summary, no OOB for prepaid, unless you opt for it.
