Is this a Vodacom/Vodafone Card? Vodacom network locked all their recent cards [they are in the process of reversing this rather bad move, but alot of people probably still sit with the problem].

Secondly, make sure your sim is data enabled, call 555 to make sure about that.

do i still have to unlock my sim card for data?

Call 173,
Press 5 for Pay-As-You-Go Data Support,
Speak/ask the consultant to activate your data/gprs or whatever...

If you don't have the GPRS/HSPDA/whatever settings yet,
press *123*1# DAIL
And select option 1/2.

Hope this fixes your problem.

Have you used your prepaid sim for data before. If you havent then you have to call them to activate the sim for data.

I've used a prepaid sim in E620 and it works fine.

i could be wrong, but i seem to remember that by doing this, you're sim gets activated for data as well, apart from just getting the settings sent to your phone

I called 173. The lady did not understand what it is that I need. I just activated my sim, loaded a 1GB data bundle. Activate by dialling *123#. Got all the settings right. Cannot connect to the internet. Tried 2 different phones and PCs. It is definately the sim. Why is it not activated for Data services automatically? Does it take a while? Help Please.

It takes a while, just give it time, it should work in a few hours.

thanks

I was very dissapointed with the data help desk. How can someone on the other side just read from a QA sheet? MTN should just ad more detail about the process on the webiste. It is better having no call centre for data support than having people with no technical skills to try and solve problems. How much must we all complain about this issue before something is done? I'll solve it for them in 2hours. Just need access to edit their website.

Tried again this morning. Still not working. Is there actually human intervention required on the MTN side?

I don't think so, did you get them to send you data settings? Once that's been done it tends to activate after a few hours.

Got a message now that video calling was activated, because I asked for that the same time. That was a clue that maby the DATA also activated.

All working now.

I am sorry, but this all should be instant if no human is involved. This could cost some poor client a extra R1000 in support fees, because a techie has to stay on to get it working.

@MTNDD

Why is it not?

What why isn't video calling and data preloaded - GPRS is preloaded on to all postpaid numbers by default - Video calling isn't maybe that's something the SP's need to look into

As for Prepaid we did a excersise recently wereby we did quite a few default GPRS default activations

Hope that answers your questions

See my post earlier, call 555 and select option 5. It works, depending on whether the operator knows what you want.

I would like to know why I could only access the internet about 12 hours after I first activated DATA on the SIM by dialling *123#? Why is it not instant.

You also stated that you did a few default actiavations. What do you mean? Did you activate some prepaid SIMs by default, so that the clients did not have to struggle like I did?
