No, not looking for a token keygen here :) Does anyone know what other codes exist, such as 'i 001' to show current usage, for prepaid meters? Are there any others?

Also, would anyone know if the municipality has a duty to supply me with a tarrif breakdown for the amount of units purchased? I'm convinced that when I put more units in, they get used quicker. *tinfoil hat*

Those stuff comes from the people who make the meters, so check them out. token codes same story.
Remember the story of the old lady, when people complain about the petrol price, she said she still fill with R10, so she cannot understand why they complain. But she cannot drive that far anymore.
Same story here, the price went up a lot.

Nice but units be they litres or kWh should be the same, the monetary value of unit change.

What meter do you have?

The Landis+Gyr Sabre: http://www.landisgyr.com/za/en/pub/...oducts=products.ProductDetails&ID=53&catID=28

Look, it could be a mental thing: like if I have more units I'm less careful... but I'm convinced something sinister is happening. Makana's website has no information about prepaid tarrifs; only post-payment. Who does one contact to get this kind of information?

[SNIP] Makana's website has no information about prepaid tarrifs; only post-payment.

My municipality is Makana, i.e. Grahamstown. Any idea which department would publish these tarrifs? Edit/ I found this: http://www.makana.gov.za/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=154&Itemid=26 but can't seem to download? Would someone else mind trying to download the first doc?

Do makana supply self, or eskom.
Where do you buy power.

Eskom tariffs differ from municipality.

Works on a few different models.

The cost isn't fixed AFAIK. If you buy large amounts, you pay a different price per unit.
Kinda like an ISP's FUP.

Anybody know anything about the old Plessey ones ? no symbols on these guys, just numbers, a clear button and another one that shows how long your power is expected to last. Well, I think that's what it displays...

Rates are the same for prepaid as post paid with Eskom. If you get through your municipality then it depends on them.

Eskom has fees as follows:
0-50kwh : Wcents/unit
50-150kwh : Xcents/unit
150-350kwh : Ycents/unit
350+ kwh : Zcents/unit.

Starting at 0kwh rating the first time you buy each month. So make sure you buy at least once a month.

That's pretty much all there is to those old meters AFAIK.

For the last few weeks it seems our electricity is going up far too quick and I do not know what the reason is. It seems that at night when everything is off that the electricity is being used by something or other. I just spoke to another couple which live in Milnerton area and they have the same problem. I know we not getting the same amount of units we used to get before the increase BUT it does seem when nothing is on that the units are being used much quicker.

Has anyone else picked this up, especially the units disappearing during the evening? Has the frequency level of the electricity changed (I don't understand this but I believe frequency levels could be an issue)?

The other guy I just spoke to is a qualified electrician and his friend, who is a qualified electrician also, will try do a test on the frequency part.

I'll be interested to hear what the findings are. We are supposed to have a 50Hz supply.

Meter mentions it. A friend of mine ran a test to run a clock based on the zero cross over of the 50Hz - the "Clock" ran for days without losing time. Seems Eskom are accurate..

Really? I got the Plessey ECON system and when I press the 'other' button it shows the level of electricity. I was wondering what is displayed when I press this button a second time. The other button has a clock, a forward slash and an arrow pointing left below it. For example:
first press ... 53.4
second press ... d 6.0

What would the second value mean?
