Prepaid mobile broadband price comparison

For someone who is not spending half is "awake time" on the net, CellC is the best option. I wished they advertise more. One can program DAP to download after midnight and during day browsing just drag and drop all the large files on the DAP icon and all programs, movies, updates etc, would be ready the next morning. Unless you need more then 100gig a month, CellC is is cheaper then anything on the market in SA this days.

Why? User pays for advertising- look how bloated VC and MTN are- their prices need to cover all their ridiculous ads.

Besides, less people using CellC means less congestion ;)

Though I do recommend all friends and family move to CellC when they can- that word of mouth (from a geek!) "advertising" works best anyway :)

Hello Neotel, welcome to the party! great deal, but realistically what sort of speeds are we likely to experience - their wireless data network is not particularly fast and I would like to see how it copes with lots of users. Their backhaul network is fantastic, majorly under utilised, but the wireless last mile could be a bottleneck. Now if they could just get their LTE running for this deal....

I have not been able to check Neotel coverage in my area, coverage charts don't seem to work !

+1, there is actually no reliable way to check whether Neotel is available in your area. There is no link to any coverage tool on their website.

You chaps realise, for a average user, adsl is impractical from a financial point of view. Not only is slow but, if you want CellC's equivalent speed (a few megabit a second), you'll have to pay Telkom half a grand+ and that is without any data! Another issue is portability. With Adsl you are stuck in one place. Obviously a mobile connection is more "mobile". This is a huge advantage for some. If Telkom does not change something they might end up with only the "big guns" as customers.

Only if you're downloading less than about 10gigs a month. For those of us who pull more than that then ADSL is still a LOT cheaper than mobile.

How about adding the speed to the table?

Also. It is not a fair comparison because it is comparing an offer which has a device to one that doesn't have one.

At least R400 should have been knocked off each of the Neotel deals to factor in the device price.

oh please . . . by now most people have the modem already. I have 2 just gathering dust. Even a oldish cellphone will do as a modem. Be real !

I have an old Nokia N95 that I can also use as a modem and believe me it works much better in some areas than my USB 3G dongle.
Nice thing about the neotel device is it acts as a wifi hotspot.

I seem to have missed the Neotel article. Anybody have a link?

a LOT cheaper? You kid yourself. And you write "lot" with capital letters. WTF Let's go thru the numbers and see if it is warranted to use capital letters :D At 9Rand a gig I will get me 2 CellC packages. One for my cell phone (will be Bluetooth linked to my laptop for maximum convenience and portability). The other Sim card will be used at home with my Wifi to give internet access in my entire house. (children rooms, living room/flat screen etc) Night usage disadvantage cancels the mobility advantage. Now if I go the Telkom way I need a 4megabit line at my house and 40 gig of data per month. Show me your best Telkom offer which is a LOT cheaper ?

Neotel uses different technology, so I doubt many people have many Neotel network compatible modems lying around.

Huh, different technology? WTF You realise, this is a disadvantage for Neotel. One more point not to bother with this offer.

While our business was using temporary premises, we investigated Neotel's wireless options. There sales guys brought us a modem to test with free of charge. The connectivity(+- 1km from base station) and speed(2-3mbsp) were pretty good. But it was the per/mb cost that put us off. This could be an excellent option if you got decent Neotel coverage!

Perhaps I misunderstood - Neotel device price must be included as you won't have a modem lying around vs other mobile data offerings where you most likely do have a modem. I thought you were saying you would have a Neotel modem lying around.
