You f.morons... if these people DON'T have these plans in place and this happens we are royally screwed.

Its like a Data Center having DR plans in place AND testing them regularly... its VERY NB to do this.

This country will come to a complete standstill! I don't want to think what could happen!

People are over reacting. I doubt we will ever see a total blackout. That is why we have loadshedding.

I think it was last week when just suddenly we were hit with stage 2 loadshedding without notice and only notified later when stage 2 was already active.

Same will apply. If they have a huge loss of capacity they will just implement loadshedding to offset that loss. If they can't implement it fast enough I think Eskom will just interrupt bulk power supply to major users until the it ramped up the loadshedding to higher stages like stage 3 or 4 or maybe higher and then slowly reconnect the bulk supply it cut to prevent a blackout.

Simple. No way they would allow for a total blackout to occur.

Solidarity probably knows that but how else will they get people to go to their expo?

You have a surprising about of faith in the lot who plowed the ship into the iceberg despite being warned.

Hahahaha! You sound way too optimistic, dude.

Low probability is not the same as no probability.

Not saying that people can't over react but I will say that if it does happen you will have very little time to react.

What Solidarity says:

For this reason it is essential that members of the public prepare themselves for the possibility of temporarily having to cope without power.”

What MyBB reports that Solidarity says:

Prepare for a total power blackout in South Africa: Solidarity

Maybe I'm optimistic but I just can't see it happening. If you run on a generator and suddenly something draws too much power are you going to leave it for the over load protection to switch everything off or are you going to switch as much stuff as you can off quickly?

I would imagine Eskom would do the same. They will just cut bulk supply without notice. I don't think 30 power generating units can fail at once even if like 6 fail the same time it means the others will pull very heavy load. They won't all trip the same time.
