Thanks for that, makes me happy that I ordered Solar+LithiumThey've been talking about this for years.... let us know when something actually happens.

Ramaphosa explains the plan to stop load-shedding in South Africa
Same here in Guptastan.Almost every single mall and shopping complex in n bloemfontein has roofs packed with panels.
Too little, too late for what?Too little, too late...
Ironically they are grid tied AFAIK, so they don't work during loadshedding. IMHO, these setups are to offset the exorbitant price increases more than loadshedding. They haven't "allowed" sht. Loadshedding will get better because every Tom,Dick and Harry with the means is going solar which MASSIVELY reduces the load from the grid. And everytime they loadshed, it just pushes more and more individuals and businesses to do the same. Almost every single mall and shopping complex in n bloemfontein has roofs packed with panels. Even the university is apparently busy with and close to commissioning the largest solar farm in the province to get off grid.
Yeah a couple of malls here in Joburg went grid-tied solar panels, so went there during load shedding and it was like but you've got 1Mw of panels on the roof and you can't do anything with them that's silly.Ironically they are grid tied AFAIK, so they don't work during loadshedding. To be off-grid you need battery backup. How many batteries will the university use?

Or they could've gone hybrid and not grid tied? Was silly to go grid tied instead of hybrid, that way during the day if there is load shedding you're still pulling off the PV.There are a myriad of installations like that around DBN as well, most of the malls have something like that as well down here and many office parks as well.
I do wonder how much of a step it would be to expand the installations and to add some level of storage backing it to provide a portion of off-grid capability.

Possibly, but still rather silly, I mean I know offsetting your costs when it's running. But anyway still find it funny massive PV array can't use it when needed.I think it was part of the way the licensing regime was setup back then... easier run to go grid-tied than hybrid for such a large installation.
They ALL have generators for loadshedding. But agree, I doubt they can afford the battery backup required for loads. And you are correct, they are primarily there to offset exorbitant price increases. Point is, they take MASSIVE strain off the grid.Ironically they are grid tied AFAIK, so they don't work during loadshedding. Yeah I know, but kinda dumb when the sun is shining. They ALL have generators for loadshedding. But agree, I doubt they can afford the battery backup required for loads. I have absolutely no idea about the battery backup of the university. I think it may just work the same as the shopping complexes as you described. Just to offset costs.
Sauce
You realise loadshedding happens at night too?Kinda dumb when the sun is shining.
Yes, I mean save on diesel when the sun shines. You realise loadshedding happens at night too?
Too little, too late for what?
Yes, I mean save on diesel when the sun shines.
But it's the new dawn mos?Implementing the so-called strategy to stop load shedding. If they could've done this, it would've been done ages ago. This is nothing but vapourware to placate the masses. Nothing to see here...
