Apparently its been escalated to some type of cable engineer that needs to fix the issue. I don't see this getting fixed today. Oh well Luckily I still have a backup solution! And the wait continues!

What is the issue?

My fibre is currently being installed, there was a delay yesterday. I will speak to the installer once he is done and see if he is aware of the issue.

Cable underground has been damaged. If you could ask him it would be nice thank you. One person here said that Telkom told them the issue would be sorted yesterday, they told me it would be sorted today when I phoned on Thursday and this morning they can't say.

They finished my fibre and he says he know nothing of any damage to the network.

My fibre still need to commision it, which I was told would happen tomorrow.

I will be checking that flashing PON light every hour on the hour tomorrow.

And it turns out that my Netgear DGN2200v4 is going to be a limiting factor. The max it can support on its WAN port is apparently 25Mbps.

Great news! how about a screenshot of the speeds :p

Once Axxess' system registers that my fibre is installed then I will bump the line speed to 20Mbps.

I have one issue though... my gaming PC gets terrible upload speeds.

My server gets the above speeds, my laptop gets those speeds but something on my gaming PC reduces upload speeds to 0.2Mbps.

What Specs are you running?

And what Antivirus etc are you using on that machine?

Also do you have any anti malware software on that PC?

Intel Core i5 6500
16GB RAM
265GB Corsair Neutron GTX
MSI Tomahawk AC

No AV or Malware protection... expect basic windows protection. At work I would never let a clients PC run without AV at home I am very careful. Windows install is about 2 months old.

Its definetly software based because whether I use wifi or ethernet the problem persists.

I removed MSI LAN Manager from my system and bingo, the upload speeds are perfect.

Hey MKR folks

Referring to this post over in the Telkom-based-FTTH-in-Pretoria thread, you guys now have a fair amount of experience in the early "housing complex" type FTTH installations, where fixed-line infrastructure is done in underground ducting and aerial stuff is not allowed.

Has anybody experienced anything like this or know what will happen going forward? I am 99% sure that the body corp won't spend on getting infrastructure down for a couple of us wanting fibre, but the copper here is so bad that the complex is less than 1km from the exchange and I can only get 2mbps ADSL.

Can anybody in MKR shed some light on what might be a viable way forward in p[ay3r's case ?

Hi jcheek and p[ay3r,

What happened in my case was, abbreviated:

- When telkom came to install, there was no infrastructure, all the pipes in the house meant for this kind of cabling just ended underground somewhere.
- Spoke to the body corporate, they just gave me a bunch of excuses (eg: take it up with MNT etc).

How I resolved the problem:

I eventually had to pay for a private contractor to come out and install new ducting etc to the fiber manhole. It cost me around 5k, but this will vary based on the distance from your house to the manhole.

PM me if you want the info for the chap that assisted me. He dealt with the body corp to get all the necessary approvals etc.

Gentlemen, I know it's not the place, but if you know of a reputable letting agent in MKR please send me a PM?

I have a 3 bed, 2 bath unit in Stone Forest available from 1 October.
