Download time: 595.677 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 6.8 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 0.8 (kiloBytes/second)

Sasan's response

Sasan's latest email reply is that if it's not resolved through Luis' contact, I must contact him to arrange that a field tech visits me.
Now I wonder what a visit from a field tech will do? I've got perfect signal, connect easily and stay connected if their tower is up, live less than a kilometer from the tower, and had no problems on my side since mid February, until 6 July.

Through Sasan's own admission the Wonderboom tower does not have to handle a large number of users.
My UTD is still in the exact same spot as it was on the 5th, I have changed nothing in the recent period until the 6th, and have actually managed to stay connected for 4,5 days.

It seems like he's blissfully unaware of the fact that this is NOT a singular problem, although I've mentioned that he can see the number of complaints in this thread.

Maybe it's a hint for free training for the field tech? :D

Maybe that tech can stop by my house after he's finished with yours :mad:

Besides that contention problem that you guys are having, I think that bandwidth monitor/capping monitor software has gone flaky or is setup incorrectly since it was suggested that users get cut off after they reach their purchased limit.

The above is just a thought as the slow problems (besides the contention problems) only started this month while they been playing around with it. :rolleyes:

Jip, wish I could try a different tower but that's the only one within range.
I've taken the liberty to refer to two of your posts in this thread in my latest reply to Sasan Parvin, just to indicate that even new subscribers have this problem.

Ppl, you're lucky, my local speed test from hellcom doesn't even want to finish, so ****ty is the speed here. Had same ****ty speed on Saturday, got a great fix on Sunday, oh not forgetting about the few hour outage on the tower, then great speed again, and now ****ty all over, where is this going to end... :-(

Wonderboom isn't so wonderable anymore!!!!!!

That tech won't find anything wrong with your system jmn, as far as I remember you had a fairly good connection before this month or am I mistaken?

The problem is on wbs side not yours. :p

:D Exactly what I told Sasan in my last reply...

Previously I comlained a little about the mushroom treatment (I don't like waddling through darkness in bull's excretion), not about my connection.

They'd be better off using the guy to fix the real problems, I don't need their TLC at my house; their network / systems can probably do with it, however. :rolleyes:

So much contradiction from WBS, i DOUBT wether a field tech is gonna solve THE problem, there are things happening, that are not being spoken about.

It would seem that one of two things are happening.

either the left hand doesnt know what the right hand is really doing.

OR

the left hand knows what its doing and its using the right hand as a scape goat.

SEEMS THERE are two poles within wbs..................
very magnetic......... one side attracts , the other repels...........

DOH!!!.................

Maybe CERTAIN parties want to de-value WBS so that a lower offer might be accepted,... ooh I love conspiracies.

I see they are planning some maintenance on pretoria towers for 0h15 tomorrow morning. Do you guys think this will help at all? Personally I am g*tvol of these problems, can not send mail using their smtp.wbs.co.za, can not retreive gmail, can not access certain sites (i.e. www.linux.org), speeds so slow I can p*ke of it.

While trying to retrieve the URL: http://www.linux.org/

The following error was encountered:

Connection Failed
The system returned:

(111) Connection refusedThe remote host or network may be down. Please try the request again.

same here in DBN

The more I read about the problems the more I believe (as I already stated) that:

a) base station contention for those on certain base stations in jhb

b) ever since they started messing with the email.

c) and now the bandwidth limit when we reach our limit so that it slows right down.

All the above I trully believe is where the problem lies, and they can stand on their heads as no tech will find anything wrong with the equipment of those who had good connections last month.

Best thing they can do is remove all those restrictions and the bum software that runs it, then remove abusers that go way over their limits. eg.double your paid for package, and if you need more then you have to purchase more.

I'm sure there will be some that won't agree with banning abusers, but lets face it the way it is now none of us can do very much.

Flame away :eek:

I agree that they should remove all throttling and restrictions and what what on uncapped accounts, so we can use our bandwidth as we plz, and when that bandwidth is done they can restrict us with their crappy throttling software. but i see no reason why we should struggle with this $^&# throttling software while on bandwidth we are paying for #&^#@! MORONS!!!!!!!!!! :mad: :mad:

Seems like a fix...

Ok, will check it out further, but at the moment:

* Download time: 4.527 seconds
* Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
* Estimated line speed: 901.3 (kilobits/second)
* Estimated line speed: 110.4 (kiloBytes/second)

and

* Download time: 3.916 seconds
* Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
* Estimated line speed: 1041.9 (kilobits/second)
* Estimated line speed: 127.7 (kiloBytes/second)

International (Internetfrog ):
Download: 547,168 bps
Upload: 96,608 bps
QOS: 19%
RTT: 7 ms
MaxPause: 1522 ms

Also a quite different IP for a change:
192.2.12x.xxx, not the recent 192.2.10x.xxx

The improvement now is obvious, even these pages are responsive.
Fedora updates (4 MB) were done at an average of 101 kBps.
