Maybe the conglomorates are finally starting to see the light. The public has also maybe woken up to the fact that we are being taken for a ride by them. Make it cheaper, or we won't/can't use it that much!

Petrol price increases. Must drive... less money for cell phones. Vodacom trying to get people to spend more again...

Hi Kaspaas

It is interesting how all of these things are inter-related. In Ewan Sutherland’s presentation recently he jokingly referred to the impact of mobile phone penetration and pre-paid airtime on the sale of chocolates at convenience stores. Previously younger children would generally spend their pocket money on sweets or movies, but now they must firstly ensure that they have enough funds to ensure their SMS habits etc.

There is an interesting story - I can't remember when and where,

but

the price of bread increased within a country, and instead of the sales of bread dropping as expected, it actually increased.

The reason was that people had to eat. When the price of bread increased, they had less money for other foods to fill their stomachs. This forced them to buy more bread to prvent hunger...

(This theory holds only for staple food within a cash stressed community - but it is quite unexpected.)

low traffic peak time ??? I'm confused. Did he say this ?

yeah he did...during 5-8pm everybody is off work and less ppl use phones...it seems like they want to drive ppl to use it during that peak time. I guess it's the lowest peak time usage operators experience.

But it's a good sign to see some competitive pricing that's going on. One day, in the distant future, we might get cheap cell calls too.

In the states my sister pays R240 p/m for cell phone contract. She gets 600 peak min free and unlimited off-peak. that shows how much the operators are making off us.
