Is it just me, or has the price of clothes skyrocketed?, This weekend i was looking for some winter clothes, was at Edgars and could not find a single jacket/pullover under R600, on average they are between R800 – R1200, normally i would buy Stone Harbour as it was a quality brand at a reasonable price, now the prices are in line with Jeep :-O
Then I went to Woolies as the “SuperSport” range is my next fav branding, R900 vir a jacket, WTF
Clothing city is still okayish with their prices, just a shame they stock hundreds of the same ugly clothes :-(
Mr Price Sport has a few well priced jackets, but their sizes are so inconsistent, their XXL is normally to small, while woolies XXL is to big.....the quality of MRP is also not anything to brag about.

There has to be a way of buying clothes for a little cheaper, cant we buy directly from the wholesaler?, does anyone know about a shop in pretoria which is not entirely insane? at this stage i'll even consider knockoff's if i could find some.
Im not after brands or anything, anything that looks nice, but these days everything is branded.
When Jeep started out, i used to buy clothes from the Jeep shop, it was cheap and excellent quality clothes, the moment it became popular the price increased x3, i just find it unacceptable paying R900 for a piece of material.

Buy summer clothes in winter (or just before winter), winter clothes in summer (or spring).

Try Makro and PNP's clothing sections. Got a very decent Cherokee utility jacket for like R400 at PNP a couple of years back.

Stuttafords usually has a pretty cool sale. I cant remember when they do it... but i swing by there and coinciding with discovery discount, it makes me feel a bit better ;-)

Aside from that - everything is expensive...

It also comes down to quality too - have bought "cheaper" jerseys from WW... and they only lasted a couple of months, so i then have to buy jerseys again the following year?

I tend to keep clothes for a while - so spending a bit extra for something that lasts a good few years seems reasonable with inflation? And also - I have favourites :)

thats just my 2 cents worth

Bet that same jacket is selling for R1200 now.

But going to have a look at their clothing, isn't the section extremely small?

Inflation is a mother****er, ain't it?

Clothes are getting more expensive, but buying in season (i.e. winter clothes in winter) is the quickest way to get shafted regarding price. By Winter clothes in Spring, Summer ones in Autumn, save a boatload of cash. Also keeping an eye out for sale items year round is a must.

I'm a big believer in buying quality that lasts, which is obviously more expensive initially but works out cheaper in the long run most of my clothing lasts me years because of this.

Protip, look for winter clothing at hiking stores like Cape Union Mart. The stuff is designed for more extreme conditions, so tends to last much longer then the fashion-focused stuff you find at Woolies etc.

You could be buying summer clothes right now, means you will be dressed well in summer at about 60% of the summer price ;)

Good luck in finding any summer clothes now. Been looking as my daughter is going to Europa and need some and the shops remove the out of season clothes.

Not too impressed with their quality either.

I'm very impressed with their clothes selection at the moment, but Trenery and Country Road have the nicest stuff, so damn expensive though.

9 out of 10 clothing items I buy, are on specials. I feel the special prices should be the normal prices. My favourite being sportsman's warehouse yellow tag, and edgars 50% off charter club. I hit those at least once a year but they happen twice annual.

That's a notoriously difficult place to shop for.

EDIT - depending on where she's going it might just be cheaper for her to get summer clothes there.

Yeah, they are great brands, but those prices aren't expensive, they are insanely expensive.

You will be surprised by the price of kids' clothing now days too. A good quality, 2-3 years old winter jacket can set you back almost R500. I can, and do, buy cheaper things at Ackermans and Mr. Price, but after a few washes, the clothing starts to fall apart and looks ragged.

Buy summer clothes in winter (or just before winter), winter clothes in summer (or spring).

The problem with this is, you can never find your size in what you want. So you end up taking things you don't really want or need, just because its on sale. Although you can find lots of bargains, especially when you a more unpopular size.
