Anyone know where I can get cheap, good flip-flops? I think I've gone through 3 pairs this year, and they've gone up to R60 a pair. Always the left toe piece that snaps.

Why must it be Flip Flops?, they generally hurt my toe, so i just buy the normal plakkies, i bought a pair from Shoe City which i absolutely love, besides them i have 2 pairs Reebok, 2 pairs Nike and a pair Adidas, all of them suck in comparison with the cheap "no name" R60 pair from Shoe City.

I thought flip flops and plakkies were the same thing?

Stop buying cheap crap then?

Just get Havaianas and be done with it.

I've had a few pairs of that type of flip-flop die in less than a day. I doubt it's possible to get that design to last even a month. I'm "not office bound", so I wear these all day, every day.

I can't stand Havaianas.
I wear tslops or hang ten flip flops.
R60 bucks or so and they're ok.
Just replace them at that cost.

I prefer a nice pair of leather jesus sandles but they're impossible to find.

My last pair was from Cape Union Mart. Rocky is a local company, so maybe give them a call. Problem is the leather takes forever to dry and isn't happy in mud.

I alternate. If I wear the strap up type for too long, it wears away my ankles.

I used to wear Cape union Mart slops, even did the otter trail in a pair.
I am however not looking for that style.
These are the ones I prefer the most.

I bought my last pair in Thailand but they never last because I wear them until they break.

That's a women's pair but the men's is the same really.
I prefer the one without the middle thong though, just a toe loop is best.

Stuttafords usually has a pretty cool sale. I cant remember when they do it... but i swing by there and coinciding with discovery discount, it makes me feel a bit better ;-)

Yea they often have sales going - I love going there now.

Think you also get money back if with a Discovery credit card too - double sale!

Got an SMS from Truworths saying they're having a winter sale, starting today.

It's very hard to find stuff that fits me. I swear they make all SA clothes geared towards short men with boeps and chunky thighs.

Yeah and apparently all women are fat with giant feet. Try shopping at Truworths, they have great brands for slimmer people.

Ackermans never needs a sale.

We buy from Ackermans, PEP and even get some never/seldom worn items from a local Hospice clothing store (the advantage of living in an affluent suburb).

We also gladly accept kids clothes that other people want to throw out.

The beauty about buying at places that others in our prefer not to, is that my kids never pitch up at social events dressed like other kids. Last week every second mother was complimenting my daughter on a Frozen themed T-Shirt she had as their daughters all pointed it out. Most asked where to get it but I claimed ignorance while I looked at all the other kids dressed from the same Edgars range of clothing.

Ackermans is too expensive for what they sell imo. I've gotten some decent things from Pep before and it is nice when no one in your social circles has the same clothes as you :D

Tried looking for a jacket this weekend but couldn't see anything that looks semi decent and warm. I don't mind paying cause a jacket should last a few seasons but flip there really was nothing I could say would work. Decided I'll buy some fabric and make myself a jacket or two instead.

I reckon AC Kermans is good for babies and kids clothes which gets outgrown in a season and thus quality and durability aren't such big factors.

On clothes for adults though... if you can afford to shop at stores that sell better quality, do it

I use to only buy my shirts from Woolies when I was still expected to be presentable at work back in my retail days.

Their clothes use to last 2+ years easily.

That was 10 years ago. Then 3 years ago I needed to get some work shirts for a new job. Went to Ackermans and bought an entire wardrobe for work (5 shirts & 5 paints) for what a single shirt and pair of pants at Woolies cost.

All except one of those shirts is still in good condition.

I've found the quality of premium stores has gradually come down since they all resorted to imports and the cheaper stores have increased their quality a lot since they all source from the same regions.

My R100 Ackermans shoes have outlasted my Woolies shoes and Bronx. I'm heavy on shoes due to my weight and childhood issues with my feet.

Only my Blundstones costing R2K have lasted longer but by only a year.

We found you need to shop around at more than one branch and need to go in at least twice a month.

They don't like to stock a lot of items at a time so range and availability is limited. The better items go fast.

Also my wife learnt about buying from charity stores from her affluent teenage clients (she owns a hair salon). They buy their clothes their as the items are so aged its now fashionable again.
