Politicking at its best. The recognition is already issued, but is now handed over at the new king’s coronation. I believe the recognition was done back in March already.

What is being shown now though is that the state accepts the king, today is a wish expressed by the Zulu kingship.

Love the theme, Ramaphosa has a New Daw, and the new Zulu king has a Rising Sun on the Zulu Nation.

BTW, this today also serves as a promise that the Zulu king has the powers to govern in terms with customs, customary and other applicable laws. No EWC will be applicable here.

Neither will the SA Constitution be applicable there. And he will tell those on his land to vote the way he says. Or else. No wonder Cyril is kowtowing.

I sense some animosity in this thread, this was supposed to be a joyous occasion, what is wrong with you people?

I'm really compelled to ask - what footwear does he have on?

Nice Western shoes like these?

It is an odd case because constitutionally they are recognised. They have their own Chapter (12: Traditional Leaders), and it enables them with a role as an institution to govern. The Constitution being the supreme law their laws which are customary needs to be compatible, though them being a nation allows them with interests. It is as grey as it comes.

I have always been in the view that we have too many nations with governing rights, and us being a Democracy I don’t support this complex hierarchy. They may have their acknowledgements, to exist, but I don’t believe that they should have the right to govern and be upkeep by a diverse population. It is argued that they ensure social cohesion, but I heartily disagree.

The Zulu king is not my king, neither is any other. It is the Zulu people who must pay their dues to their king.
