Probable PC fault? (Lenovo G50)

I currently have a Lenovo G50 (2015 model) that I purchased out of the box (for R7500) for Varsity back in 2016.

As we all probably know, Computers don't last forever and it is only a matter of time before my laptop decides to kick the bucket. Now, I am not a Computer genius or know much of its internal essentials, but recently it has been daftly slow. I am 50% confident it might be the Processor (Core i5) that is slowly dying. On Varsity, we learned C# and had to install Visual Studio, and last year I had a brief stint with Android Studio and that software takes a big load of Processing to run probably. But even between 2016 and two weeks ago, it has been very effective to its potential, although last year its HDD broke and I replaced it with a SSD.
Apart from not having an Nvidia Graphics card (yeah, I don't know myself why I was persuaded into buying it), it could run a lot of games.
But recently, some games refuse to run or is very slow.

I do format it at least once every 6 months, but it is making no difference these days.

Just for more info, it has 6GB ram and to my knowledge they all still okay.

Apart from doing any extreme diagnostics, can anyone deduce what the problem might be?

Probably can't meet the increased demand. Time for an upgrade.

Get a laptop techky to open it and give it a good clean and apply new thermal paste to the CPU.

It's probably overheating ?

It could be anything. Without benchmarks or diagnostics from your PC, it would be silly to speculate. It's not like you are running a base version of windows 10 out the box, you have custom software installed which has probably been updated to consume more resources since you first got your laptop.

... "Guys, my car is running slow now, but when I got it in 2016 is was great, any idea what might be the problem?"

SSD's do die especially if you write a ton to them.

You should check the health of it with Crystal disk info.

Also running unmatched pairs of RAM isnt the best practise.

Does you SSD have a DRAM cache or is it a cheapie?

Malware, Windows updates, dying SSD, driver issues, using windows instead of Linux.

Plenty of issues one could point at

Wouldn't slow down the machine though.

OP's post is similar to trying to find a needle in a haystack.

Firstly, run something like Core Temp while using it, let's see what temps it gets upto.

Install Crystal Disk Info and check the health of the SSD.

Update all drivers to the latest versions.

Main suggestion I would make is to upgrade to more, even if you just swapped the 2GB for a 4GB module you'd notice a change.

He swapped to a 6GB in the OP.

That said, the CPU is not very strong:

Pretty much anything modern would beat it, to put that into perspective, here is that i5:

And then last gen's i5:

Both are in the same power envelope about.

Here is an i3 version of the 10th gen:

And here is one of those utterly crap 5W celerons:
