I have a macbook with 10.6 installed. I am having a problem getting file sharing setup between the two machines.

I have enabled Windows file sharing on the Mac, and have chosen which folders to share and given them the right permissions. From the Vista PC I can see the shared Mac folders perfectly. My problem is getting the Mac to see the folders I have shared on the Vista PC. I have both machines on the same Workgroup. And I have setup the shares on the Vista PC correctly.

But when I try access the PC from the Mac, it says I do not have sufficient privileges. On the Vista PC I have shared the C Drive and the user folder. I have given full permissions on these folders. With the C Drive it says I do not have sufficient privileges. On the user folder, I can log in, but I cannot see anything in the user folders, even though there is data in the folder.

Is there something else I have missed, or could it be a Vista issue?

And you did enable "windows file sharing" under sharing of course.

Also try connecting via Go-> "connect to server" - in the Finder menubar

Yes, I did enable Windows file sharing on the Mac.

I went to connect to server, and I tried the ip address of the PC and the domain name of the pc. Its aks me for the username and password.

I typed the username and password and it gives me the possible mounts. When I choose C Drive (which is shared with full permissions), it says I do not have sufficient priviledges even though I do. When I try log into the user folder which I shared, it mounts the user folder, but shows nothing in the folder, even though all my user data from the PC is in there.

Is there something I am missing?

I've noticed that from Vista, if you access a HDD from another computer, say via USB, then you don't have access the user folder.

Seeing as you have shared those folders with full permissions, it's obviously not that, but must be some other issue. I will look around.

I found out why this was happening. The Vista machine did not have a password set. When I setup a password, everything worked fine. So you have to have a password on your user account for the sharing to work correctly. You can't have a blank password.
