I bought a car from a private seller. All I have is signed sale agreement. No copy of sellers ID, no yellow paper.
Car has fines and now licence expired. Im trying to get hold of seller as Im done paying it up but seller is avoiding me and not being any help.
Anyone know how I can go about this alone?

Hi everyone

Just registered and this is my 1st post...

This happen to me a while back...
First off, write down everything that happened. Write it in "story form", from day 1 until now. Be very detailed, include information like dates, monies paid (off), attempted contact, etc. Sign it and make a copy. Take it to your nearest Police Station and have it certified. Then go to your local Traffic Dep and explain your story to them. They will access the situation and guide you from there...

In my case, I bought a vehicle that I bought was (voluntary) scrapped by a previous owner, as the person that he sold it to still owned him money. In my hesitation, I failed to 1st check if the paperwork was in order.
Long story short, I had to take the car for:
1. Data (Micro) Dotting (R450)
2. Police Clearance (Free)
3. Weight (R150 @ Cape Agri)
4. Roadworthy (R180)
5. Registration (R650 in my case)
-Remember to take along your green ID Book for all of the above

My Traffic Dep is now attempting to have the car reclassified as a Code 2 vehicle (currently Code 3) but its an ongoing process.

Always, always check if the paperwork are in order before you buy any vehicle.
A simply phone call to your local Traffic Dep with the licence nr would've saved me a lot of trouble, anger & money!

Hope you get helped...
