Is anyone else having connectivity issues with ADSL in Paulshof / Rivonia area?

About 20h00 last night all my connections died however the sync light on my Netgear router was still lit?

I rebooted the router, it synced up and still no IP was assigned.

I checked my connection status on the router console and it displays a message of "Disconnect" and then "Initialise LCP". Tried the Telkom guest account as well as a backup ADSL account I have. Same thing.

Logged a fault with Telkom but they say it will take 5 days for a response. Guess I am not paying for 5 out of the 31 days in October if thats the case.

Anyone have any ideas, is this the exchange or a router issue?

Reduced to GPRS now...

I had the same problem from about 19:30 last night. Seemed to correct itself at around 22:30. Not sure what happened. Btw, what router do you have?

I am running a Netgear router also, connection went down about 19:00 last nite. IS and Telkom, same thing, sits on initialize LCP. What the hell is LCP BTW? I have logged a fault with Telkom, keeping fingers crossed. Fourways area.

A friend of mine living close to Woodmead also went down yesterday afternoon. His connection was restored late last night.

Just phoned Telkom again, apparantly there is a problem with my line specifically. I asked if it was a general fault and they said "It doesnt appear so"

So what now I dont know, they say a technician will be assigned tomorrow to look at the line fault.

What doesnt make sense is that I am synced to the ADSL port at the correct speed, but get that LCP initialise message?

Pffft!

Here is my connection stats

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 384 kbps 128 kbps
Line Attenuation 50 db 15.5 db
Noise Margin 16 db 23 db

Seems massive line attenuation could be my problem...

Thats the sad - we gotta pay them for this sunday.

8 hours later I got a call from them saying that they are experiencing network problems in my area. I could have told them 8 hours ago *sigh*

If I worked the way Telkom did, I would be fired.

I just called home and asked my wife to start up the firewall and one of the clients to check if there's connectivity. The last account I was testing with last was the Telkom guest account. She said she was able to access Telkom's homepage once the firewall was up and running.

I'll check it out myself when I get home....but it seems like we're up and running again.
