Problems with MTN uncapped 3G lite. 0Kbp/s every few minutes and pages not loading.

Good morning chaps. I seem to be having a problem where every so often the 3G just shows 0 Kbp/s on the download but it still shows data being uploaded. This is a big problem especially if one is busy playing a game and you get suddenly disconnected. I also have the problem where if i'm browsing it will just fail to load web pages and then if I refresh the tab it loads fine. If i run ping test it indicates 90% packet loss.

It's been mostly fine since I got it in october (although the 0 Kbp/s issue has happened intermittently since then) but the packet loss and browsing time outs are only since yesterday. I live in the George area in western cape.
Has anyone else experienced something similiar ?

Ya i do have that sometimes also, easiest way is to unplug or restart modem. Just disconnecting doesn't help.
If you indeed still get slow speeds after that it's MTN again, I get days which i can't browse or download. Also never been unthrottled since the first month. Complaining doesn't help either.

I've stuggled to get any throughput the last few mornings, despite numerous router reboots / APN changes etc.. Nothing this morning at all.

Put in a CellC sim and hey - I've just realised that MTN's network is crap. On CellC I'm getting 85ms pings (as opposed to the usual 300+ms on MTN). Speedtest.net shows about double the speed.

Hi,

I live in the George Area as well and don't have any problems at all. Try moving your laptop/pc, maybe the signal is poor at your work station. Maybe that will help.

Oh and...I asked the coverage team about the 3G coverage in our area. They told me 3G coverage up to Airport and EDGE in Heroldsbay, don't know about George self, I live outside town.

I phoned coverage - aparantly I've got the best coverage possible in my area. SO that's out. Moving laptop/desktop has no effect.

Oh no! Maybe something else. You tried phoning MTN, George? Maybe there's another problem you're not aware of. Hope you get sorted out soon. Not nice at all!

Sorry if I missed it, but is the modem connected to a router or straight to the laptop? Also what modem and/or Router are you using?

+1

To get the speeds up I find unplugging temporarily solves the problem (you know until it hits 0KB/s again)

MTN worst mistake I ever made, I honestly don't care with what excelent deals they come up in the future, after this, they've lost me as a customer for life

Hmmm ... , sounds like I better stay away, 3G Lite, looked to be a reasonable solution, but with all the problems mentioned here and elsewhere ... , I'll maar give it a pass ...

Still having this problem. Disconnecting and reconnecting, restarting etc has no effect. Lasts for days at a time now.
