When I am unplugged (ie. using laptop battery) and I play a song through Winamp it seems that it occasionally causes the song to sometimes stutter and Windows to be really really slow.

Anyone have a similar problem?

i think winamp use a bit more resources than say windows media player

so your pc might go into slow mode or something

just use windows media player when u unplugged

But what if he wants to use winamp? I don't have a laptop but I'll try to help. You can try and reduce the resources that winamp uses by going to Preferences > General Preferences and unchecking Show winamp in : Taskbar and System Tray. I know it's not much but it definitely saves on some resources.

when on battery mode your laptop will more than likely go into an adaptive power state.

go to control panel, power options and change the default to something like
always on.

cheat sheet
XP Power scheme AC Battery
Always On None None
Home/Office Desktop None Adaptive
Portable/Laptop Adaptive Adaptive
Minimal Power Management Adaptive Adaptive
Maximize Battery Life Adaptive Degrade
Presentation Adaptive Degrade

How could Winamp use more resources than Windows Media Player? Maybe if you're using Winamp3 with a huge skin or something, but otherwise... wtf.

Yeah I'm using v5 with the default skin and it's taking up less than 3 megs of RAM when minimized.

squirrel, I doubt winamp is using more resources, it is using probably less, causing windows to think that it is idle and switch to power saving mode causing ****!

do what werner said above

They use about the same amount of resources when a file is in use. Approx 10MB on my system

I am using the latest version of Winamp Lite, so it is basically like the 2.x days. If I make the power scheme to Always On, will it still take advantage of PowerNow?
