hey guys I'm thinking of getting a projector for use with my tv, ps2, pc etc. Just wondering if anyone knows of one that is superior to the rest, and what features/abilities should I look out for on a possible purchase cause I know absolutley nothing about them. Thanks.

i would consider the BenQ series of projectors. they go for about R5999 and offer true HD and widescreen resolutions via a plethora of connections.

have a couple of them at work and loooove to borrow them over the weekend for the PC and X360! :)

lately bulbs last for an average of 4000 - 6000 working hours.

make the calculations and you can have the projector on for a solid 250 days without interruptions. ;)

er no... they're not "true" HD... max resolution is XGA (1024 x 768)... you require 1280 x 720 for basic HD, and ideally 1920 x 1080 for full HD

lol... so there is basic HD, true HD and full HD now? :p

this is the BenQ projector i am referring to.

i suppose the HD signals get downsized for the native res just like the EDTV plasma screens.

not bad for the price though. ;)

but this one looks better.

I would rather spend the money on a large LCD screen. Yes i know they are expensive. It will last a lifetime and has much better resolution. it also takes up less space that a normal TV.

Hey guys thanks for the advice, I'm looking for a cheapish one, not a R69000 buck one lol. Preferably under the $1000 mark as my dad will be buying it in Singapore so hopefully it'll be a bit cheaper. Are bulb replacements available in SA for those Benq projectors, and for what kind of price?

Hey useless I'd really appreciate that mate, no point in buying a projector only to find out that they don't sell the bulbs here. Thankx.

The company name is Leading Edge www.leadingcomputers.co.za and the BenQ model we mostly purchase is the MP610. Prices for the bulbs are approx. R2500, their MTBF is around 4000 hours.

Hope this helps.
