MTN junior accountant allegedly stole R53 million in 90 illegal transactions

An accountant who allegedly stole R53 million from MTN did so through 90 illegal transactions between December 2010 and April 2017, court papers revealed on Thursday.

Sowetan Live reports that state prosecutors revealed further details of how the former MTN junior accountant allegedly pilfered R7.6 million a year from the mobile operator.

Not to worry! A small price increase will recover the loss and a bit extra to cover any future employee 'transactions'.

I wonder what will be her fate for doing this??

Paid herself R53 million into her own bank account since 2010 but dresses like she is poor. ANC do exactly the same. Steal but claim they live in poverty. Would be really curious what she spent the money on. Maybe her husband is living like a king

Just can't believe this.

Another thing with if you are rich. You have been eating so well your whole life you can suddenly not eat prison food and you can pay doctors to diagnose you with conditions that are chronic.

Ruth Moshabane, the woman accused of defrauding MTN of R52-million, has anaemia and cannot eat prison food, the Johannesburg Commercial Crimes Court heard yesterday.

Moshabane's counsel, Piet du Plessis, told the court during her bail application she had a chronic condition for which she was hospitalised last year. "I am on a diet and prison food does not cater for my condition," her affidavit reads.

The state objected, arguing she had not disclosed her assets.

Sowetan reported Moshabane had held directorship positions at 14 companies but resigned from four.

She also owns three properties with a total value of R1.7-million, a Jeep Grand Cherokee and a Toyota Hilux Raider.

Magistrate Jerry van Vuuren later granted Moshabane R200,000 bail.
Director of 14 companies. Sounds like she planned to launder it through companies so SARS would not pick up the income.
