So much free internet and yet Telkom still charges the ordinary man an arm and leg for ADSL line rental.

because most south african hotels dont offer any internet acess for free
... and it is to communicate the END of their rollout. Now I can get free WiFi in remote places when I stay in Protea Hotels. The initial rollout covered the bigger hotels first (logically).

Thats nice for all the people who use less than 100mb per day.

Ow well, for other people, at least it saves them from paying for 100mb of data.

And if you go on holiday, and spend your time in the hotel surfing the 'net, you're doing it wrong.

Every chain hotel I have stayed in in Africa and South Africa have always had at some sort of free wifi. The fact that protea doesn't shocks me.

Those that have used the Protea Hotels free wifi, how to you activate your 100mb session? Do you need your room number/room receipt/etc?

Good to know. Just booked a weekend away today. Could get uncapped 10mb for the price of a one night stay though.

Lololol. I hope this isn't the same system they had when I stayed there a while back. Let me say uncapped is nice in a Hotel.

I used this in clarens. You just ask reception for a voucher that has a number on. Connect device to Wi-Fi and try browse anywhere and you get the login page, enter voucher number, answer 2 marketing info type questions and then it redirects to a local info/weather type page and you can then browse etc as normal. I did a speed test and it seemed like a 4mb line. I didn't try any torrents or check how well their capping system works though. Didn't see anywhere that showed a balance.
