Proteas Men Inbound Tour against Pakistan

Guys who are using historical stats to exclude Tony and Vuyani but include Bosch aren't being consistent. He has an average domestic record to the extent that his initial inclusion was questioned by many who keep track of domestic cricket.

My view is that Shukri and Temba have done enough for us to trust their selections. People questioned Kwenas inclusion over Patto but Shuks gave decent justification. For a placid pitch you probably need more pace.
 
My unpopular opinion team would be

  4. T. Bavuma
  5. D. Bedingham
  6. K. Verreynne
  7. W. Mulder
  8. M. Jansen
  9. K. Maharaj
  10. K. Rabada
  11. A . Nortje

    (Would probably swop out Nortje for Kwena due to kwota issue), As mentioned before I would also very easily swap Maharaj for George Linde and have an extra very capable batsman & provide us with almost the same spin as Maharaj does.

They will be in the sense that the current requirement is calculated across a season. This allows a few games to be under-quota if it's made up again in other games.

I don't think we will pick Hermann in a high pressure match to debut. Your under estimating Maharaj bowling, when last did we have a spinner with a sub 30 bowling average at almost 200 test wickets? It's a slippery slope if you want to replace Maharaj with a better batsman that bowl spin, we can select Neil Brand, 40 average with the bat and 30 average with the ball in First Class cricket, blows left arm finger spin. I don't think Kwena will play as it a lot of pressure on an 18 year old.

Order might change, but that'll pretty much be the team (fitness permitting). I'm also not saying that I think that's what the team should be, but it's what I think the team will be.

Mulder will definitely play. Shukri backs him 100% and sides these days rarely goes in without a 5th bowler.

Barring injuries I think the side Shukri will pick will be:

1.aiden
2.ryan
3.tristan
4.temba
5.david
6.wiaan
7.kyle
8.marco
9.keshav
10.kg
11.anrich


Won't be surprised either if Shukri bats wiaan at 3 again.

The guy has a first class average of 36 and a test average of 22. Why do why insist on playing him at 3, even if that's his domestic position. His stats just aren't good enough for a number 3...

He did though average 55 in the 2023/24 FC season when he was the third highest runscorer (behind Ackerman and Stubbs) and has only had the one innings this season where he scored 56. If he can find a way to translate that sort of form to tests that would be very, very useful.

Shukri believes outside of Temba who shouldn't move he has the best defensive technique to see of the new ball. Atleast compared to Stubbs, beddingham and Kyle.

I don't agree with him but that's the thinking.
Btw. The position he actually bats in domestic cricket is 4 .

Even 4 is too high for someone with his record. Having a technique and having application are two different things. Biff literally had the worst technique but was one of our most successful openers...

His first class record for the lions is much better then overall one. The overall record is brought down by his poor test performances before Shukri took over.

For the lions his first class average is 43.16 with 4 100's.
SA A average is 38 with 1 x 100.
Leicestershire he averages 37 with 3 100's
He averages 45 in tests since Shukri took over.
 
For those that always look at stats for answers, riddle me this.....

What was Jacques Kallis like in his first 12 or so test matches?
