Herath to Amla, OUT, he's gifted a wicket to Sri Lanka! Herath teases him with flight, Amla thinks he can whack him through extra cover but the slower pace messes with his timing and the South Africa captain has to walk back. Except for that unbelievable flick, he did not look cozy out there

HM Amla c Perera b Herath 11 (36b 1x4 0x6) SR: 30.55

Perera to de Villiers, no run, down the track and drills it back to the bowler, who moves swiftly to his right and hurls it at the stumps. AB has to dive, a despairing one but has he made it? Sri Lanka are seriously excited here. And it's touch and go! It's that one frame in between that we need. The bat is grounded, that's certain. The benefit of the doubt might go to the batsman here... yes, it does

Thank goodness for this. Would have put the skids on a good start to the match.

Perera to du Plessis, OUT, taken, short leg in play again after stopping the single the last ball! Gets down the pitch, but Dilruwan has spotted him coming and shortened his length. The ball grips and turns just that little inch to take the inside edge, take the pad on the way to Kaushal Silva who claims a smart grab. Faf was tiring out there

F du Plessis c Silva b Perera 80 (196b 5x4 1x6) SR: 40.81

No man!

Lakmal to de Villiers, OUT, that's a beaut! Lakmal has put Sri Lanka ahead! The curse of our followers has struck, they've been screaming South Africa have been going too slow all day. This time the bowler strikes a fuller length and gets the new cherry to jag back late, snare AB's inside edge and clatter into the stumps.

Hardly the end of the world, but a mixed day.
True but we really wasted a good start. I watched the whole day and kept on asking myself "when are we going to assert our ascendency?".

And then we let it slip.... Maybe Elgar and Faf gave the other batsmen too much confidence and they did not apply themselves properly, because there was some strange Test match batting later in the day.

Sri Lanka will feel that they had the better day. South Africa has hardly piled on the runs like McD said. The pressure which they put on the SL bowlers was allowed to slip in the last session. And that is what SL will sleep on tonight. Such a pity. Such a pity.

But tomorrow they'll be back fighting tooth and nail and piling the pressure all over Sri Lanka!!!
