End of over 91 (2 runs) South Africa 268/5

Q de Kock 17 (33b 1x4 0x6)
DW Steyn 0 (0b 0x4 0x6)

5.05 pm South Africa had dominated the game for two sessions of play, but in the final session with some reverse swing and some serious strangling by the spinners, Sri Lanka had stormed back to make it an even day. They would be concerned with the fitness of Shaminda Eranga, who split his webbing while fielding, but their other quick Suranga Lakmal has been brilliant coming back from his own injury. Dean Elgar became the first SA opener to score a ton in Sri Lanka and he would have hoped to regale people with tales of how he had set his side up on his first ton away from home, but right now that might not give justice to the full story. Join us tomorrow same time to see how the rest of this game unfolds

90.6
Herath to de Kock, no run, this one skids on quicker and de Kock has to hurry in bringing his bat down and that is time
90.5
Herath to de Kock, no run, looped up outside off, QdK keeps it out
90.4
Herath to de Kock, no run, a little round arm there and de Kock works it to short leg again
90.3
Herath to de Kock, no run, good length ball on middle and off, de Kock dabs it to short leg
90.2
Herath to de Kock, 2 runs, goes back and punches this short ball with a bit of width and collects two. Steyn said he would take over, but QdK disagreed
90.1
Herath to de Kock, no run, good length ball on middle, de Kock turns it away into the leg side

Dale Steyn strides out as nightwatchman and has to deal with Herath. South Africa are making sure this will be the last over of the day. Steyn walks up to have a final chat with QdK. Mathews crowds him with two short legs, slip and short midwikcet
End of over 90 (wicket maiden) South Africa 266/5

89.6
Lakmal to de Villiers, OUT, that's a beaut! Lakmal has put Sri Lanka ahead! The curse of our followers has struck, they've been screaming South Africa have been going too slow all day. This time the bowler strikes a fuller length and gets the new cherry to jag back late, snare AB's inside edge and clatter into the stumps.
AB de Villiers b Lakmal 21 (48b 4x4 0x6) SR: 43.75

Oh, sport24 said it was the last ball.

It was the last ball of the 90th over, which is normally the last over of the day, but SL were within their time so could fit in another over. They also started 5 minutes late this morning...

She wrote that article about Peterson's poor form and not deserving his place, and they had a spat on Twitter.

Twitter? Why can't folk just say off the flippen' thing?! Idiots.

63 runs off 30 overs for the loss of Steyn's wicket in the morning session.

Really slow going, but hopefully this will help in setting up the match for bigger things.

Steyn and QdK

Glad qdk got his fifty

This pitch looks like it is going to be tough to bat on in the latter stages

Duminy and Philander also going slowly. But it would be good if Duminy can take us over the 400 mark.

From what I have heard about that pitch, this may not be enough.

A few people are nodding off in the crowd, especially on the grass banks

At least they're still scoring runs. Even if it is a little sedentary.

This pitch will be very difficult to bat on come day 4&5.

Spin will be key

132.1 Perera to Duminy, 2 runs, strong sweep from Duminy as well, placed it well to the right of square leg to pick up a couple and raise his fifty. Lovely little knock, very organised against spin and pace

Completely missed that. Well done fella.

Mazher Arshad via CricInfo said:
"Vernon Philander batted for 194 and 155 mins in last Test at Cape Town without getting dismissed. Now already 103 mins in Galle. That's 452 mins not out, over 7 hours!!"

Seems he will be a handy all-rounder yet. But his batting average is only 7 above his bowling average and his bowling average is likely to increase.

Edit: Think he might be out though

Mathews to Philander, OUT, opts for the inswinger this time and Philander is caught in the crease. Mathews erupts in appeal and gets the raised finger. Struck on the back foot and it hit him a touch high, but Hawk-Eye goes with umpire's call
