Agree on Duminy. He should be our finisher. I.e. when he gets in, he must bat as close as possible to over number 50. His natural ability is to score at a run a ball easily.Yeah, it's a very fine balancing act!!
If your No 7 finds himself at the crease with 15-20 overs to go it usually means the top order has failed! IN THEORY Behardien is the type of player who should be good with that much time left. He's not a player that can smack from the first ball but he once he has a over or 2 to have a sighter, he should be good to go. Unfortunately he simply hasn't materialized, Period.
Albie is more of a banger from the get go. If he comes in with 5-7 overs left he can do damage!! IN THEORY!! But would Albie know what to do with himself with 15-20 overs to go? Probably not! He doesn't have a defensive game...
Having said that. I'm sure all batsman want to come in with more than 3 overs to face! Doesn't matter who you are or how talented you are, you need 2 or 3 overs to have a sighter.
Our middle to lower order is crucial if we going to win the CWC.
The openers pick themselves and really only because no one else has asserted themselves as an opener so Amla and QDK must open.
Faf at 3, AB at 4 - Those surely are your bankers
5 - David Miller. His knock yesterday was huge, not only in the context of the match but for his own self confidence and belief that he is a competent batsman that can build an innings and destroy a bowling attack in the last 10 if he is still there.
6 - JP. Crucial, crucial, crucial, crucial, crucial, crucial player. I tell you what, the world cup campaign rests on his shoulders. If we 70/5 he is the man to consolidate and try rebuild the innings. If we 250/5 he is the man to continue with the high scoring momentum. He is the man most likely to be coming in during or just before a batting powerplay and he is the man most likely at the crease at the end of the innings!! He is also your 5th/6th bowler!!!
7 - Behardien. He looks a sharp fielder, CATCHES WIN MATCHES! He looks the type of bowler many may under estimate, at their peril! His batting has been woeful and that is his primary function! That's a massive headache! If he comes in with SA needing 70 off 9 overs to win a semi final, we as good as shagged! Let's hope he can find some international form! God knows he's produced the goods in domestic cricket! If he can find form we have a great chance of progressing to the final!
8 - Philander. Pure class. Conditions should suit!
9 - Morkel. Pure class. Conditions should suit!
10 - Dale. Pure class. Conditions should suit!
11 - Tahir. Huge potential when he gets it right. Catastrophic when he doesn't. Either way, always in the game!1 Could be our trump card?
This would be my starting XI for every game! 9 games, including the final over 6 weeks is EASY!!! Baring injury, no need to rotate personnel.
If you unlucky to have 2 or 3 front line players break down in the semi then so be it if you make it to the final and are forced to field 2 or 3 players that have been carrying drinks for 6 weeks....
How are the pool games likely to play out and who do we meet in the knock out stages?!!!
Has anyone analysed the fixture list?
We should win against Zim, UAE, Ireland. Tough will be India, Pakistan and the WI but at least 1/3 or 2/3 leaving us in 2nd/1st place in our pool. Will we win our pool? Most likely.
Pool B
SA
India
Pakistan
WI
Pool A
Aus
Sri Lanka
Eng/NZ
Pool A is a tight one...
Good team. There is not really anyone else. I had a look at FC stats, and Behardien is one of the star performers on franchise level. He needs to reproduce that form at int level.
4 for 50 in 10 overs is not bad at all for our 5th / 6th bowler yesterday. Will take it anyday.
