Yeah, it's a very fine balancing act!!

If your No 7 finds himself at the crease with 15-20 overs to go it usually means the top order has failed! IN THEORY Behardien is the type of player who should be good with that much time left. He's not a player that can smack from the first ball but he once he has a over or 2 to have a sighter, he should be good to go. Unfortunately he simply hasn't materialized, Period.

Albie is more of a banger from the get go. If he comes in with 5-7 overs left he can do damage!! IN THEORY!! But would Albie know what to do with himself with 15-20 overs to go? Probably not! He doesn't have a defensive game...

Having said that. I'm sure all batsman want to come in with more than 3 overs to face! Doesn't matter who you are or how talented you are, you need 2 or 3 overs to have a sighter.

Our middle to lower order is crucial if we going to win the CWC.

The openers pick themselves and really only because no one else has asserted themselves as an opener so Amla and QDK must open.

Faf at 3, AB at 4 - Those surely are your bankers

5 - David Miller. His knock yesterday was huge, not only in the context of the match but for his own self confidence and belief that he is a competent batsman that can build an innings and destroy a bowling attack in the last 10 if he is still there.

6 - JP. Crucial, crucial, crucial, crucial, crucial, crucial player. I tell you what, the world cup campaign rests on his shoulders. If we 70/5 he is the man to consolidate and try rebuild the innings. If we 250/5 he is the man to continue with the high scoring momentum. He is the man most likely to be coming in during or just before a batting powerplay and he is the man most likely at the crease at the end of the innings!! He is also your 5th/6th bowler!!!

7 - Behardien. He looks a sharp fielder, CATCHES WIN MATCHES! He looks the type of bowler many may under estimate, at their peril! His batting has been woeful and that is his primary function! That's a massive headache! If he comes in with SA needing 70 off 9 overs to win a semi final, we as good as shagged! Let's hope he can find some international form! God knows he's produced the goods in domestic cricket! If he can find form we have a great chance of progressing to the final!

8 - Philander. Pure class. Conditions should suit!

9 - Morkel. Pure class. Conditions should suit!

10 - Dale. Pure class. Conditions should suit!

11 - Tahir. Huge potential when he gets it right. Catastrophic when he doesn't. Either way, always in the game!1 Could be our trump card?

This would be my starting XI for every game! 9 games, including the final over 6 weeks is EASY!!! Baring injury, no need to rotate personnel.

If you unlucky to have 2 or 3 front line players break down in the semi then so be it if you make it to the final and are forced to field 2 or 3 players that have been carrying drinks for 6 weeks....

How are the pool games likely to play out and who do we meet in the knock out stages?!!!

Has anyone analysed the fixture list?

We should win against Zim, UAE, Ireland. Tough will be India, Pakistan and the WI but at least 1/3 or 2/3 leaving us in 2nd/1st place in our pool. Will we win our pool? Most likely.

Pool B
SA
India
Pakistan
WI

Pool A
Aus
Sri Lanka
Eng/NZ

Pool A is a tight one...
Agree on Duminy. He should be our finisher. I.e. when he gets in, he must bat as close as possible to over number 50. His natural ability is to score at a run a ball easily.

Good team. There is not really anyone else. I had a look at FC stats, and Behardien is one of the star performers on franchise level. He needs to reproduce that form at int level.

4 for 50 in 10 overs is not bad at all for our 5th / 6th bowler yesterday. Will take it anyday.

We should probably back Behardien now that he is in and would likely play. I just cant help but think that with him in the team we are both a batsman short and a bowler short! Like yesterday for example, with the bad start if you look at the guys to follow its only really JP you can trust with maintaining the innings, dont really expect Behardien to stay long.

With McClaren in the team at least you are not a bowler short. Maybe he can even add a few runs.

Ryan or Elgar should have been in the team in my opinion. We also cant play both Abbot and Parnell in the same game. It weakens the team. Both of them need the other senior bowlers to apply pressure from the other side so you need at least two of Steyn, Morkel and Philander to play if you want one of them in to balance the attack.

Apart from the profusion of exclamation points, agree with this :p

I can see Rilee getting into the game for Faf or Qdk but else he's along for the ride. Hoping Behardien has some performances in the last 3 warm-up games to build some confidence...he's genuinely match-winning domestically.

Surely you can influence his return on the provisio he behaves? Give it a try man! Many times a person get banned by virtue of the many RBP's received and not because of what he said in context of the thread.
I have motivated to have ZCFOutkast reinstated and will monitor discussions in the Sport's threads a bit more closely from hereon in.

He is not my favourite character and do feel he is somewhat of a troll. However, after you posted this, I gave it a lot of thought through the day. I had to concede that you made perfect sense. Let's see what happens following your motivation.

Perhaps ZCFO can be guided to be a great contributor to some of the debates.

I also vote for reinstatement. If other trolls (real ones frequenting the PD section) can remain then I am fine with it!

LOL... there ain't no vote :p Reinstated.

On condition that he types out the following in his first post coming back: "Abraham Benjamin De Villiers is undoubtedly one of the best if not the best cricketer of the modern era, across all formats. He also keeps wicket better than Thami multiplied by Van Wyk."

:p

Please just have a word with him, im all for diffrent opinions, not a day passes that i dont argue with someone on forum, the diffrence is we are all open to debate, i have been wrong many times and Im always first to admit when i was wrong and to apologise, ZCF has a tendancy to stir up emotion and i have never seen him admit he is wrong about anything, he must stop with this racial crap, he makes this whole sport section a unpleasant palce, like I said, i have no issue with opinions and debating something, but he also has to learn to accept other peoples opinions and not just attack attack attack even after you have been proven wrong mulitple times, this is not a one way street.

Thanks Mickey! Lament you break my heart :crying:, at least sand_man missed me :). OGroteKoning gave me benefit of the doubt...I think the rand will be 8:1 against the $ next week.

Long way away form that ....

I still think Heineken and Dingo must be canned. Proteas order and personnel not quite right. Would be a miracle to go past QFs. Only two players are certain of their positions in the XV Eben&Vermeulen, Heyneke was on the verge of a breakdown, I don't feel confident about the Boks beating Samoa (gave Boks a scare in 2011) or Scotland (should be a handful "at home") so the groupd phase might just end with the Boks flying back home like Bafana at AFCON.

And yes none of that is trolling. All very possible .... especially when you think about the last FA Cup weekend.;)

Well well well, the "ban" turned out to be more of a miracle since we all seem to be thinking along the same lines now....yet somehow remain in disagreement:D

1. Abraham Benjamin De Villiers being considered at #3
2. Rilee Rossouw not good enough
3. Kyle Abbott not good enough
4. Farhaan Berhadien appreciated
5. Phangiso appreciated
6. Morkel rightly viewed as being overrated
7. Faf rightly viewed as being overrated
8. Our bench strength is a weakness and we have little quality depth
9 Proteas bowling upfront and at the death among the weakest of the top sides, despite Steyn's presence
10.At leats someone missed "the outcast"!

The only thing remaining to be accepted is that QdK should be dropped down the order (... and you will come round to that too trust me;)). After Miller did well I would have thought guys would suggest that he should open alongside Amla. Alas he only gets bumped up only to 4.... Poor QdK.

All sides have belligerent no nonsense openers (Finch, BMac, Gayle, Tamim, Hafeez, Dhawan, Dilshan). They are usually paired with very aggressive opnerse too (Warner, DSmith, Sharma, Guptil etc). PROTEAS WILL NOT DO WELL WITH AMLA+QDK OPENING! Epsecially with Faf coming in next, while other sides have likes of Watson, Sanga, Kohli etc.

FFS!! You still a 'the glass is half empty' type of guy?!!

Maybe that will all change when tonight, Bafana beat Ghana 2-0 and Senegal beat Algeria 1-0 and Bafana progress to the next round...
