So.... The team?

Tahir and Bavuma in?

Just curious, Bavuma is a batsman, who would he be in for? Is QDK not fit yet? Tahir is a certainty me thinks and probably at the expense of Abbott.

QdK out for month or two, AB will keep. Either Bavuma or Rilee will come into the team.

Must play a spinner in PE. Robbie P out injured, so Tahir was brought and will probably replace Abbott.

Those were the initial reports, not sure if it is still valid. There were fears that it might jeopardise his world Cup chances.

Forgive my ignorance. Bavuma has had a good season locally, but unfortunately never seen him play. Is it worth giving him a crack ahead of Rilee? Certainly wish whoever cracks the nod the best .

That'd be a massive blow to the lad and team.

It's the right time, right team to play against, and right circumstance to bring him in, for sure...

It would be a bit unfair to Bavuma as he was selected into the squad on merit, whereas Rilee was added to the squad to replace QdK.

So then Bavuma it should be? It would be epic for the local game.

Rillee was injured thought when that squad was selected...Rillee averages 44 in first class cricket, Bavuma only averages 35. This is a political selection...

Also before some bring up the 100 bavuma scored vs aus a, rossouw scored 200 in that game...

Simply put Bavuma hasn't done enough to deserve a call but is being fast tracked because of political forces.

Yip, pure political. We have much much better batsman than Bavuma.

I agree with you, but it will be good for SA cricket if we can have a full out black batsman. Rilee is a better player but he had his fair share of opportunities and failed badly in many of them (as in ducks). Bavuma is already in the squad and the opposition is poor so it is an ideal chance to give him a go - let him show what he has got. He looks a flashy player rather than being able to play a long innings though.

If it was not about potential contracts etc I would have given Eddie Leie a go as well because Tahir has crap test stats anyway. On a sidenote I rate Reeza Hendricks as a great talent but again he is not black.

I am co passenger for a rare change. Caught up with the other two matches. McCullum smashing a century off 74 balls and a new fastest for a kiwi. Smashed up a 1000 runs in a calendar year... another first for a kiwi? The man knows no boundaries.

Anyhoo, I too am itching for the start.

I cannot comment on the merits of his inclusion, so will not debate it. However, I want to look at it from another angle. What if they coach and mentor him to be the quality talent necessary to be a regular in the team? Can they not afford to try this in this series?
