Talking about last night's performance,
I think our best shot at WC glory will be
1.Amla
2.QDK
3.RR
4.AB
5.Miller
6.JP
7.Parnell
8.Philander
9.Steyn
10.Morkel
11.Tahir

Yes our tail is kind of long, But we have enough firepower in that bowling attack to take on anyone.

Rilee was pure class, his strokes where elegant and looked great. I have much more confidence in him than I do in Faf at number 3.

I agree.

What I dont like about Faf is the fact that he's a "moody" player. He either scores at a run a ball or just wants to block. Thought Riley was a one hit wonder but what a performance with the bat. Hope he grows from here.

After Gayle was out I lost interest. Looks like there was a bit of fight until around the 25th over and then WI folded.

Windies have a leadership problem. Holder is not the answer. There are too many strong individuals in their squad and he's not strong enough. They need an iron fist.

SA... Problem areas:
1. Backup bowlers
2. The 5th bowler's 10 overs
3. The number 7 spot
4. Fielding - not up to our usual standard
5. Arrogance - some players need attitude adjustment.
6. The huge support staff

Agree with most points except 5 and 6. Our players aren't any more arrogant then the aus players. You need some attitude to win imho.

Support staff we have less then aus and significantly less then england.

We will not agree on this. Faf is simply not as good as RR, period.
Test and T20, sure. but 90% of the times Faf fails at ODI's, his stats speaks for it self. He has a pathetic ODI record for 67 matches. How can our number 3 batsman average 33?, (lets not forget he averaged below 30 his first +-55 ODI's). That's simply not good enough.
Maybe he will surprise in the world cup, I hope he does. I just strongly doubt he will.
I also see Faf maybe not being selected in the ODI team in the near future, unless he starts performing. He has to go to the WC though for his experience.

Rilee needs to be a team regular and directly competes with Faf so the pressure is on.
This is a common problem in SA. Picking players and not using them accordingly. RR was originally brough in as an opener (even SvZ was touted as a player who must come into the team either as an opener or to replace Farhaan as the batsman who bowls a bit, yet Stiaan is k@k slow in limited overs matches). Rilee failed there, now he's being dropped down to 4.

Faf is a middle-order batsmen shunted up to 3 in all formats. True he's average 44 from that position in ODIS after 25 matches, but in 11 matches at #6 he averaged 35 at a SR of 97.

After 34 matches at #6 David Miller average just 32 with an exact same average as Faf - 97!

Now we want to say Rilee is better? Faf is better than both Miller&RR in every position 1-7!!! I don;t see that changing no matter how much Rilee improves. Rilee Rossouw has never really looked good against quality seamers. So why should he be accomodated lower whereas others are doing ok there?

The best youngster in SA in terms of opening in the Limited Overs matcehs is Reeza Hendricks. After Rilee failed why shouldn't he have gotten his chance there instead? Fair enough RR was in the CWC squad so it's a case of making the most of the situation.

However I firmly believe that Amla, QdK, Faf, AB, Miller, JP, Farhaan, Philander, Steyn Morkel, Tahir is the chosen first XI. They will stick to that and I beileve QdK will fail big time. When that happens I don't think he should be dropped completely from the squad. AB can keep while he travels as reserve. Reeza should be given a similarly long run there at least 15 innings (just like QdK&RR).

That should be the only change because I don't see Farhaan failing in this CWC. If he does then Wiese is already pencilled in as his replacedment.

As for Parnell people should stop avoiding the issue. If he continues to do well the equation is simple - Morkel OUT, Parnell IN!

We should stop this habit of shifting players to accomodate certain preferences out of convenience. RR failed where there's a potential vacancy. He must go back to domestic!

Speaking of Reeza I see he hit 141 against the England Lions yesterday http://www.espncricinfo.com/southafrica/engine/match/737433.html

I don't rate Wiese. He got no wickets and fetched 8.11rpo for his 9 overs bowled then got just 7 runs. But he did better in the first match http://www.espncricinfo.com/southafrica/engine/match/737431.html. He also did well for the Proteas recently, but I still rate Frylinck higher and considering they are about the same age, I would pick him ahead of Wiese IF Farhaan must be replaced.

At the end of the day the #7 position in all our formats should belong to Ayabulela Gqamane if he wants it. Classwise he has no peer, with both bat&ball.

Just be positive on the squad that they have already selected! Stop making negative comments on the players.

Sorry, wrong. He is nowhere near Albie Morkel, McLaren, Morris, Parnell, Obus Pienaar, Dwaine Pretorius, etc.

Lol! Time will tell. None of the above-named had bowling anyway near as good as him at this stage, while he shows enough quality in his batting to prove that he'll make a great #7.

Are you even aware that Gqamane is coming from a long&serious injury lay-off. He had unsuccessfully postponed treatment to try and cement his place with the A side last season (after he was sabotages with constant non-selection).

Why not pull out stats from the only season he was no injury-ridden?

Bowling

Batting

I've said before in this forum, we'll see where he's at next season because he's basically getting back to fitness this season. Surely even Piedt's record after injury should tell you something about how tough it is for the young &inexperience players to get up to speed. Yet he would be our #1 spinner in the Test XI next series.

You would be the first person who follows domestic cricket who refuses that Gqamane is arguably the best of the lot and a definite Protea as soon as he's 100% fit&firing.

Outkast, why not join one of the Superbru cricket prediction leagues for mybroadband/mygaming?

I'll think about it. Cricket is rather predictable man. I considered the rugby one though.

Surely for someone with your in-depth knowledge of the game and each players strengths and weaknesses, this should be a walk in the park?

Lol there you go again

On a serious note, basically in all formats for full strength sides:
AUS go to PAK they lose
SA go to PAK, SL, IND they draw
AUS at home thump everyone from here on in
BD decent enough to beat or draw with anyone at home
ZIM in Tests can beat anyone but AUS&SA at home (hardly suprising as they are southern hemisphere sides)
WI will beat ZIM&BD at home
PAK can lose to anyone away
SL will lose to anyone home&away
IND should beat anyone but SA at home
Anyone but ZIM/NZ/WI can beat ENG at home
SA will ALWAYS find a way to lose at least one or two Tests of the series at home
etc etc

The only fun side now is NZ in all formats. Unless contests involve NZ then thigns are pretty plain sailing for the bookies now.

I think that's what's been happening. No?

ICC have to bring in AFG&IRE to spice things up a little

If someone's 6 year old's doesn't accidentally play along, I cant see him not being dead last. Go and have a look at his rugby predictions, apparently Scotland and Samoa are going to beat us, and we wont even make the Qualifiers.

Edit, here we go :), Outcasts RWC predictions

We are probably edging past USA and Japan...

No no no Lament, the West Indies will field a rugby team and they will win the world cup because Anton Leonard is coming out of retirement and along with Naas Botha, will guide the WI to a RWC victory.

Ha ha ha. Why are you bringing this here?

I'm a little bit convinced Scotland will beat us, especially considering they've got two easy games before, and the Boks will have a tough time against Samoa. We've always thumped Samoa. Heavily! But last RWC was encouraging for them and thy havent't been all that bad since. They can match the Boks - pace, physically etc. Both sides have easy games upfront, so they should be upbeat ahead of this one. Technically they are not a match for the Boks but there is a chance for an upset. They'll want it more. Besides every tournament tends to have a shock, and this is the only match in the tournament which comes closest to a true shock result.

Now we can go to the Cricekt World cup thread!
