I cannot comment on the merits of his inclusion, so will not debate it. However, I want to look at it from another angle. What if they coach and mentor him to be the quality talent necessary to be a regular in the team? Can they not afford to try this in this series?

If he fails to impress in domestic / firstclass, what makes you think he will succeed in the highest form of the game?, if he wants to show us his merits, do it on the domestic scene like everyone else, now the whole team needs to suffer for SA's BS transformation policy by playing someone who does not deserve to be there.
He receives coaching from his club, same as everyone else. There is only so much a mentor/coach can do, the rest is natural talent. Or you have it, or you don't. If after 60 matches you have an average of 35 with only 8 hundreds, then most probably you don't.

I agree with you, but it will be good for SA cricket if we can have a full out black batsman. Rilee is a better player but he had his fair share of opportunities and failed badly in many of them (as in ducks). Bavuma is already in the squad and the opposition is poor so it is an ideal chance to give him a go - let him show what he has got. He looks a flashy player rather than being able to play a long innings though.

If it was not about potential contracts etc I would have given Eddie Leie a go as well because Tahir has crap test stats anyway. On a sidenote I rate Reeza Hendricks as a great talent but again he is not black.

Rilee has not played a single test match, not sure where he has received his fair share of opportunities?

The opposition is poor, there you are correct. So lets say Bavuma makes a 100 (which i doubt), how good is this really?, now they play him against decent opposition like Eng or Aus, he fails miserably...If we played a quality batsman like RR, it could have been a different story.
I have no issue with color/race before someone says something, i purely look at performances and stats. if Bavuma averaged 45 with 18 centuries if would have no issue with his selection.

I'll go as far as to say Rilee is the 3rd best batsman in SA.
Going by stats,
1.AB
2.Amla
3.Rilee
4.JP
5.Van Zyl
6.Elgar
7.Petersen
8.Faf

I meant with ODIs he had a few chances. Like I said, Bavuma is already in the squad so might as well give him a go. Show what he can or cannot do. He has some style and can play shots but does not look like someone who can really build an innings. There is more to batting than being able to square drive a quick bowler for two boundaries in an over. I agree with you though that unless he is brilliant, there is no place for him while you have Rilee, Stiaan, Reeza, JP etc and his stats dont suggest brilliance above the others. Even Miller is a better bet really for a no6.

SABC 2 commentators are adamant that you should bat first in PE.
True. Very strange decision to bowl first. That bit of green on the track makes it better to bat on. As the game progresses it will get slower and lower - making batting more difficult.

Then again... rain is forecast for tomorrow and Sunday and this will really juice it up. Just in time for the Windies to bat on and face Steyn, Morkel, Philander and company!!

WI should have batted.
