Watched only 30 min of this test and I must say it is so one sided. These WI are useless.

Haven't been following the domestic scene for a while, but does Stiaan have what it takes to open the batting?

Think he does. Certainly the most suited of the current test candidates to open.

Good knock on debut. Couldn't really have wished for a better platform thought.

I wish my PVR could forward to tomorrow morning. Can't wait to see the Steyn remover in action.

Yeah i actually feel sorry for the Windies, this morning is going to be complete destruction of them :(.

Philander and steyn are going to wreck them. I'm gonna call, 160 all out 1st innings.

Have you guys see how they waste time in the Aus vs India game?
Drinks come on the field for the batters every 3 overs or so.

3 minutes before the day close and drinks come on for the batsmen.

Apparently both teams are guilty of this.

It is ridiculous!

I miss the glory days of Windies cricket when they offered some decent resistance to the Saffers.

Lara left with hopes and dreams of Windies cricket.

With temps in the mid to high 30s you cannot blame them!

And ja ja ja ja ... I know it even warmer in your town! :p

Great century on debut for SvZ. Close to 400 odd for 4, chasing a declaration against that WI attack on the day was a gift, but few would've converted that kind of opportunity into a century on debut. So well done to the young man.

Morne Morkel & Abbott proving to be toothless once again. And I ask once again why both of them are there ahead of Tsotsobe. The kind of brilliance with the new ball Philander is displaying is precisely the alternative Tsotsobe would be providing, albeit with a left arm.

I wouldn't worry too much about Steyn. As the years&seasons have gone by he's been starting badly but recovering later. Sometimes he postpones it until the second innings but ultimately he delivers inTests (no longer deserving of a guaranteed first XI spot in LOIs everytime though). I'd only get worried once fans are reduced to making up excuses for him like at least he's softning up the batsmen for Philander&Rabada :D.

wow, tough decision!!

SHOCKER!!

I agree. Hometown decision. Understandable if you consider that Smith&Brathwaite are cruising against Steyn, Philander, Morkel, Abbott ... and we were bound to see the desperate introdution of Elgar, Faf, AB, SvZ and AB as bowlers pretty soon.

Recently India have stood up to this attack at home, and an even weaker WI was looking to repeat the same. So to be honest in a way the team needed that free wicket from the umpire. Potential time lost plus Chanders means a draw was on the cards. Odds of that have lengthened a bit now.

I'm not so sure about that. I think we need some more frames to really see exactly when contact with the bat was made. There is 15-20cm (approximate ball travel distance) between the 2 frames. The way I would argue it:
Frame 1 - ball seems to nick the bat or a jiffy before the bat was nicked;
Frame 2 - ball 15-20cm past the bat with snicko sound amplitude reduced after it spiked when the ball was actually nicked.

Surely, when the evidence is that inconclusive, the benefit must go to the batsman??

Oh yes... But it is only inconclusive to those who don't agree with the decision. But I have to side with you on this one. Benefit should have gone to the batsmen.

Didn't the on field umpire give it not out though?
