EDIT: that title was generated by Bloomberg, but so very apt

Interestingly, Michael Bloomberg (an actual billionaire and a much better mayor of New York than Giuliani ever was) has expressed scepticism over Trump's billionaire status. He was asked a question some time back about why he didn't run for president in 2016 after having toyed with the idea. His answer: he had determined that there was no way that a billionaire from New York would ever become president, and that his comment stood despite Trump having subsequently become president.

The thing with these Forbes, Bloomberg etc. lists of richest people is that they're not based on actual audits of their wealth. The Trump Corporation is a private family-owned company whose financials is a mystery to the outside world. It is well documented that Trump massively inflates the value of his assets. At one stage he claimed that his "brand value" was worth billions (it isn't), a figure that he included in some of his own financial statements. Forbes, Bloomberg etc. can but guess, project and estimate Trump's wealth. Why do you think that a man as braggadocious as Trump doesn't want his tax returns to get out? Back in 2004 when Trump went around boasting that he was worth 3 billion dollars, Deutsche Bank assessed, for purposes of a loan that he had applied for, his true net worth to be under 800 million dollars, and even that figure was based on inflated numbers that Trump had supplied to the bank.

Here's what Jonathan Greenberg, a Forbes reporter who helped compile the Forbes list that Trump first appeared on, had to say about the matter (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wealth_of_Donald_Trump):

Former Forbes reporter Jonathan Greenberg stated in 2018 that during the 1980s Trump had deceived him about his actual net worth and his share of the family assets in order to appear on the list. According to Greenberg, "it took decades to unwind the elaborate farce Trump had enacted to project an image as one of the richest people in America. Nearly every assertion supporting that claim was untrue. Trump wasn't just poorer than he said he was. Over time, I have learned that he should not have been on the first three Forbes 400 lists at all. In our first-ever list, in 1982, we included him at $100 million, but Trump was actually worth roughly $5 million—a paltry sum by the standards of his super-monied peers—as a spate of government reports and books showed only much later."

Trump took out a 30-year mortgage on an 18.5 million dollar home in 2018 (https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...an-on-18-5-million-home-in-2018-idUSKCN1SM2AY). Does that sound like a billionaire?

If the Americans had Clinton or Sanders they'd have been so screwed. Let's face it @lumeer Americans didn't have a lot to choose from but they sure did hit the jackpot with D Trump. Obama put America more into the crapper than any of the crappiest presidents they had. he was a puppet to please the colored vote and keep the democrats in a happy spin for a while. As soon as Trump got elected they knew the party was over. Now they're trying everything in their power to oust him.

If you gave me a choice in South Africa to vote for a man like Trump I'd vote twice for a man like him. He actually delivers what he said he'd do in his election campaigns something no Democrat has ever done when they get the seat.

Nope, tbh Democrats are balloons full of hot air and when they miss the party they exploded and accuse people of lying and false claims. They failed twice and this would be the third attempt to remove Trump from office. All the time and taxpayers money spent to try to remove the guy instead of working to solve problems and stop wasting taxpayers' money. Look at Brexit a great example of just wasting taxpayers money and time push on and get over with it already

Prove the Left is totally out of control, no direction at all.

I don't know. Something similar to what supporters of Jacob Zuma, after his corruption had become evident, deserved for still supporting him and keeping him in power. They were, in some sense, accessories to his crimes. Today South Africa is suffering the after-effects of ten years of Zuma rule, and some day the world will suffer the after-effects of years of Trump rule, for example from his damaging and regressive environmental policies.

Show us the evidence of this corruption by Trump please.
He's the best president the US has ever had.
Glad he is reversing the course of regressive 'alt-lib' fanatics who have destroyed the USA.

I wonder how married female Trump supporters would feel if their husbands acted like their hero Trump and became serial philanderers.

Yeah, like democrat Bill Clinton the serial felching receiver in the White House. And let's not get into all the convicted pedo's the Clinton family hang with.

If the dems are so great. Why are big dem strongholds like NY, Chicago, California, such **** holes? It should be a utopia. They treat the middle class and poor like **** even Saint Bernie refuses to pay his own workers more than 15 an hour.

Have you ever been to California? S**thole is not the word I would use to describe it...

One of his campaign promises was to eliminate the US budget deficit, yet it is sky-rocketing. Not that he cares that future generations will have to pick up the pieces, which is one of many reasons why I consider him to be unethical and immoral. His tax cuts (mostly to the benefit of rich folks like him and his children, which is, I reckon, the real reason for them) are unsustainable and he is setting his successors up for failure. A good president sees to it that he hands over a healthy country, but Trump will hand over a country that suoerficially is doing well but below the surface is sitting on a bubble about to burst. Obama handed over a healthy country which is why the economy is doing so well; the seeds were planted under Obama and the garden is now blooming. When Trump's successors have to fix a messed-up economy, Trump will boast how well things were under his watch, when in fact he is the architect of America's future problems.

A side note before I begin on this awesome Monday Morning, Thanks for the healthy debate @lumeer much appreciated.

Gotta give him the credit he has slowed down that draining figure I mean $22 trillion dollars in the red and almost all the presidents that wanted the job said yes to another war to climb out of said debt. Trump's like "there's another way we can climb out of this debt", might not be during his time cause if he is re-elected 8 years to solve $22 trillion is impossible It'll take America a good couple of presidents to solve that problem but he'll put War Mongerers to sleep and build up industry again. Something America is famous for I mean ww2 is a great example.

this China war is a great example, China has been benefiting for Decades of low trade taxes and when Trump came in he was like those exemptions on trade tax is for developing 3rd world countries not developed countries such as China.

I'd like to point out that this budget deficit keeps getting worse when the left hire more expensive lawyers and waste tax monies to try to impeach rather wait him out till elections and work with the man. Wasting so much time and effort, they should be doing their jobs than bitching about the guy, also most of those rich folks you speak of if you take a nice long look into all the cenitors the demo's got you'll notice they are also super well off so those tax cuts actually benefit them then too right? I don't see them bitching about the fairness in that

Someone spits at a Trump supporter ... response is overwhelming in calling it out, outrage at the "tolerant left", anger at how the left is protracting the divisive discourse of our age.

A Trump supporter drives over a protestor, or sends several bombs to Democrats, tries to blow up an Amtrak train, plans to carry out attacks on CNN ... the response is overwhelming in defense of these events, as not a symptom of the growing threat of stochastic right wing terrorism. It is actually the left's fault and despite the Conservative principle about personal responsibility, everything on the planet is blamed, except the people who are actually guilty of these crimes. Anyone who tries to highlight the issue is just suffering from TDS and is just a soy boy beta cuck leftist communist socialist libzombie libtard Kaktural Muchist.

When a thread about a Trump fan being spat at garners more support and outrage for this lowkey act of battery, than an act of actual terrorism by a Trump supporter, it has to just make you laugh at the incomparable level of cognitive dissonance.

Haha yes, its those places that are the schit holes and totally not the Republican rust belt that sucks most of the budget on welfare.
