A 30-year-old Western Cape man who stoned police officers and joined a crowd in overturning a police vehicle before setting it alight has been sentenced to a direct term of imprisonment.

Luwandiso Fungwana, 30, stood trial in the Caledon magistrate’s court on charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, public violence and malicious damage to property, said Hawks spokesperson Lt-Col Philani Nkwalase.
