A prototype Ilyushin Il-112V military transport aircraft with three people on board crashed during a test flight in the Moscow region on Tuesday, its manufacturer United Aircraft Corporation said.

A prototype Ilyushin Il-112V military transport aircraft with three people on board crashed during a test flight in the Moscow region on Tuesday, its manufacturer United Aircraft Corporation said.

It was unclear from the company's statement if there were any casualties in the crash. However, RIA news agency cited an anonymous source as saying the crew were believed to have died.

Looks like an engine fire on that plane, strange how long it carried on flying straight while the engine burnt, I’d have expected the pilot to try and get it down asap.

An engine failure won't automatically cause a crash. An engine fire is different, and can burn through control cables. Looks like that's what happened.

I think even down into the trees would have given them more chance of survival than waiting till they lost all control and cartwheeled out of the sky.
