Provisional Tax Penalty

I submitted my tax return and was slapped with a Provisional Tax Penalty.

How is it possible to attract the penalty when I’m not a provisional tax payer?

Thats not what they imply. All it means, is that the tax penalty will be finalized after the audit, but that is the provisional penalty for now.

I think provisional is the default status assigned if you declare an income but you do not receive an IRP 5. That's what happened to me, anyway.

I do have an IRP 5 and nothing has changed since I submitted my last return.

My employer pays for PAYE. I'm paying for dividends and interest.

Im also curious. I got hit with penalty for no reason and as such lost out on my return. Now waiting for them to sort this dispute out.

According to SARS you automatically become a provisional taxpayer when your additional income such as interest or dividends exceed their stupid margins.
Best of all is that they do not have to notify you that you are regarded as a provisional taxpayer either.

How can they expect a novice in tax matters to know this stuff?

I’m disappointed in SARS.
