I went through most of the proxies, and this one works the best:

168.167.21.8:8080

In XP windows, go "control panel", "internet options", "connections","settings", tick "use as proxy server", enter Ip address and port settings, click advanced, tick "use same proxy server for all protocols and exit. Would appear that you can do this on the fly even while connected.

Ok great. Thanks for the detailed description. I appreciate it.

The problem in our house at the moment is the fact that lots of bandwidth is used by my son, my 2 nephews and one friend, who play CS on Karoo or Saix. We all play a lot of games and I need a playayble ping. You say the proxy config will change my ping. This could be a problem.

Here is my setup.

ADSL Router: 192.168.1.1 (PPoe onboard)

Server. Nic 1: 192.168.1.2
Nic 2: 192.168.0.1

Other PC's all assigned an Ip between 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.0.11 using a Gateway of 192.168.0.1 Through a switch connected to Nic2 on server machine.

Now Im no Network boffin, but this is what I setup myself and seems and has been working OK for 9 months now. So without "fixing" a fixed network, how would you suggest I tie up these proxy settings. [:)]

I look up all the IP addresses and they all belong to either saix or TElkom, so you will more than likely find you will have a great ping.

How would just using a Telkom proxy affect the cap.

Telkom has plenty proxy server I was told by one of the staff. As a client of Telkom one should be able to use this?

I am well aware of how proxies work.

What I meant by the question was whether Telkom throttles ADSL users on their proxies as well for International traffic.

In regards to gamming there are not really any proxy servers for that (that I am aware of).

Brandon posted a question if using a proxy would affect their gaming pings. The answer is no as most games do not use ports 80 and that is the port you configure in IE.

I play DFBHD internatioanlly and use proxie for my browsing and it has had no affect on my pings at all. Although I can not play once I hit my cap.

Quick question, anyone else noticed that the ping on internation game servers is always higher at the beggining of the month, usually 1-5 (once all the caps are reset).

Loose lips sink ships.
After you made public the open SAIX proxies. Telkom/SAIX so graciously
disabled them.

In future Brandon keep your gems save.
The TELKOM spies read this forum and plug holes as you may have found out.

Happy proxy hunting.

Personal flames are counter-productive and unnecessary. Telkom would have eventually found this hole and it is very possible that the closure of said hole is a coincidence and not a result of the posts on this forum.

Any semi decent network administrator should be able to find abuse of his proxy server. It was a matter of time and I agree with Perdition not because of post but because of abuse possibly. Don't let the telkom helpdesk be the image you have in your head of all the techies as well.[;)]

The question though is. As a telkom customer you are surely allowed to use their proxies[?] I use M-web as my ISP and I am allowed to use their proxies.[;)]
