PS2 v13 + Duo 3 + Neo Fix IV

Hey all - I'm really hoping there's someone out there who can shed some light on this issue.
I recently did a successful chip install on my slimline v13 with the Duo 3. I also installed as per the fundi's recommendation, the Neo Fix IV for the laser. Day one was fine. Day two, DVDs failed to work. All CDs work fine. The Neo Fix XIV shuts it down when a DVD goes in. STRANGE!

After hunting the web, I have read a few articles that state that the Neo fix is only necessary on the V12 machine. Then someone told me that the Neo can actually do damage to some consoles because of an abnormal situation that can cause the DVD diode to pop. Well.. sounds like what happened to me.

Can anyone confirm or deny this? What are my options? New Laser? I am reluctant to fork out cash if not required... Should I remove the Neo Fix IV? I assume so...
Thanks in advance!

No DVDs whatsoever... only CD games, etc. The Neo Fix is supposed to save your laser on the v12 slimline from what I have recently read, but I have a v13 which the thing is supposed to work with, but Sony have supposed to have sorted the laser issue with v13 and aboves...
IMO they are making such carp these days that I have decided to look at the WII seriously.

Ah well...

It only took them 13 revisions, and how many years? They must be super-geniuses over there at Sony.

Bottom line is that the PS2 has always had a poor quality laser with badly designed control circuitry. You should never use a PS2 to watch movies or read any dual layer discs.

The first Playstation also has laser problems. I'd assume that the PS3 will share these problems.

That fix was for a bug that crept in at v12. But I am still not a sony fan, make no mistake.

I have read about calibrating the laser... don't know if the slimline laser has those pots - haven't seen them (also don't know where to look)

OK! Replaced the laser with an 802 - had to replace the entire optical block. So... if anyone wants an optical block without a laser (actually you can have the laser as well - it reads CDs fine), pm me. R90
It includes drive motor, spindle hub, laser arm, seek motor and mechanism, etc.
