On the official PS3 website they say the two versions of the consoles will be retailing for $500 and $600, now how the **** does that end up costing R6400 in SA??? Even if we say the dollar is 8/1, the premium package should cost R4800, Im sorry but take2 are smokin some really good sh*t to be charging those prices. An XBOX 360 premium from them costs R4764. If I was in the states I could therefore get a PS3 premium pack for $599 x R7.13 (current exchange rate) = R4270.87 . For those who are not math inclined, R4764 - R4270.87 = a SAVING of R493 and 13c on a PS3 :D . Ok I know the xbox 360 retails for $400, but considering the extra spec stuff you get wit a PS3, that bit extra might be worth the extra cash.

I'm not quite ready to commit to one or the other yet, will wait for the PS3 to come out and see what its all about, then I'll decide. How is it that our PS3 is more than 50% mark up than in the US. I'm sorry but my dads in retail, and no matter how you look at it that is a straight up RIP-OFF from R4270 to more than R6400, nuts. Thank god we can still import consoles ourselves.

2 things to consider:

1 - never compare american pricing with SA directly, they don't pay VAT. All online prices from American sites have no tax applied as their tax is paid at a state level, so online ransaction don't have tax. Compare to the UK rather.

Having said that, once everythings been added, multiplying by 10 is usually a fairly good indicator.

2. take 2's 360's are still imported unsupported items. The official price for a ZA 360 is R3700 (kudo's to MS for breaking the x10 thing). Using that as an indicator, the PS3 premium could be about R5550.

Although using "nintendo" maths (DS lite price) it could be R6830!

Mmmmm this whole thing is getting quite interesting, I wonder if we can also expect a price drop in the XBOX 360 once the PS3 is released  that would be great. The thing is with consoles, even though R2000 sounds like an incredibly large difference, when you think about it, it is truly insignificant when you consider the quality of the games. R2000 buys you for games more if your lucky, and to think I own about 25 PS2 games, thats like 13 grand  . Thats almost the value of my car, and considering I have owned 2 PS2's thats more than the value of my car, but I do drive a 20yr old ride though :D . I might just wait out the first few months of release to see whats up and hope prices drop like rocks, until then my trusty PC has my back :D

Considering that, in all honesty, the games are going to be identical across the 360 and PS3 (exclusivity is going to be a rare thing this generation, except for the Wii), and that the 360 games are already R400-500, that's 4-5 games more at launch!

Also, I just read Pioneers is going to bring out a dual BR/HDDVD drive soon. Thanks, I'll wait for one of those . .

Gran Turismo 5 my man, Gran Turismo 5!!! Sorry I'm a bit of a petrol head and GT5 will be the only way I can ever afford a Pagani Zonda and Nissan Skyline :D . Plus the Metal Gear Solid titles? Other than that, yeah, I dunno, maybe I'll just use my PC for a year until prices level out.... I hope..... Oh yeah and online gaming and downloads are free on PS3, don't you need to pay for XBOX live?

You mean for not taking the already inflated UK price and inflating it further for South Africa.

As for sales tax in the US it depends on where you buy and where the item is going. For instance an online shop selling based in New York selling to someone living in New York is required to add sales tax.

Heh heh, That's an update.

As of last week, take2 still had them listed as R4700.
