PS4 Ultimate Player 1TB vs PS4 Slim 1TB vs PS4 Pro

Good morning all

As per the subject, I am trying to make a call on a PS4, but I need some real life (people) input.

I can get an Ultimate Player version with some nice extras second hand for a very good price.
PS4 slim basically the same as the Ultimate player, just a bit more expensive.
I know myself, I always want the best currently available, but I don't see myself buying a 4K TV soon, so is the Pro worth the extra money if I am not going to have a 4K TV?

Please help me out here.

I would get the pro, but that's just me. Some games support the Pro enhancements, and you can choose performance mode over prettiness. So on a 1080p screen, most of the time you'll be able to choose between 1080p60 in performance mode, or 1080p30 with supersampling. So the tradeoff is smoothness vs better visuals. It varies by game though, sometimes by quite a lot. For example, Horizon Zero Dawn's FPS is 30 whichever mode you use. The Pro also supports boost mode, which helps boost FPS for games that aren't pro enhanced. I wouldn't call boost mode a game changer though.

If you can't justify the cost, the base PS4 is fine. From what I understand, the ultimate player edition is really just a base PS4, so if it's cheaper and cash is an issue, go for it. The slim might be ever so slightly more powerful, but I'm not sure.

It's quite a big difference in price.
I can't believe I'm saying this as I normally hate when other people say it but...
Maybe wait for Black Friday if you can? If there's a decent special on the Pro go for it. If you don't think there will be (I have my doubts) then the normal PS4 will do you just fine.
Disclaimer - I've got a 4k TV but I'm much more of a gameplay person that visuals person. I still really enjoy GT5 on the PS3. Pro gives you options in how you want set stuff up but for me most of the time it's much of a muchness.

Thanks guys ... I don't see anything around the std vs slim? Not a big difference?

I've got a PS4 Pro but no 4K TV, yet. Definitely worth it if you want that extra power.

Go for it!

Pro. All future games with higher visuals will benefit even at 1080p. Just do it!

I upgraded to the pro a week ago, then decided i needed a 4K TV to go with it and experience the experience to it's full entirety, meh, it's pretty cool I guess, but if you're not planning on getting a 4K TV any time soon then go with the cheaper option......

I realized the other day that I am doing 720p on the standard PS4 on a 32" 1080 TV.
Cannot remember when I changed it, might have been playing around with netflix.

I might be able to see the difference when playing @ 720 and then switching to 1080 and playing again.
However, since I forgot about it, I realized playing @ 720 has not diminished the fun of the game.

That said I've been curious about playing HZD on a PS4 pro @ 1080 just because it's such a beautiful game.

@LandyMan , I went through the same thing as you did.
I went with the Ps4 Slim and enjoying it. Its seriously quiet!

Also have no plans to upgrade anytime soon, since it would mean new TV and amp.

As for Future Proofing, buy a PS5 that has a 70% chance to have backwards compatibility.

Or buy a Ps4 Pro second hand in 2023 for much cheaper than the current price.

Does your 4K Tv support HDR? To me that is where a lot of wow comes in - the rich colours of D2 for example are quite amazeballs to watch - especially when playing at night.
