Good read.
A few errors in fact checking though.

The 1X didn't come out in 2013.

And when the One launched, it wasn't all the about the power, it was actually severely underpowered and focused more on a centralised multimedia experience. Something that MS took a lot of flack for at the time, which led to the release of the 1X.

Thats pretty much how I remembered the XBOne launch. Their focus was more on multimedia entertainment than gaming console.

Not to mention they mentioned Audiophile and Xbox in the same sentence. That is a good laugh. Audiophiles spending a few 100K on a sound setup won't use a console to listen to music. Not an Xbox, nor a PS5.

@Splinter whats your opinion on the Dual Sense controller, now that we've actually seen more of it?

I haven't looked at any in depth reports. I think I will make up my own mind when I get my grubby paws on them next month (all going well).

Having sad that, at the bare minimum, at least we have some new tech to evaluate, unlike the you-know-who crowd. :)

Xbox Series X is the only console Dolby Atmos certified. Gears 5 and Forza Horizon 4 are prime examples of implementation of the codec.

Sorry, haven't been active since I'm on holiday. But I can answer your question regarding the early XBox Series X units.

It's running non-final software. Watched a video about it but can't remember which one. Also they were allowed to talk about fps and performance and such but they weren't given any Series X games to test with. So all tests were done on current gen games. That's why you see these comparison videos of loading screen times and games running at 60fps.

However apparently some 200 Series X games or something were going to be made available this weekend or next weekend? Sorry, not sure. So hopefully more info will be coming our way soon.

*edit*
Link about the 200 games: https://screenrant.com/xbox-series-x-games-preview-200-weekend/

I see it doesn't mention fps, so maybe they aren't allowed to write about it? I don't know. Watched a couple of videos where they showed the fps of current gen games. Will be interesting to see.

Good read.

Hmm. Engaging my blatant PS fanboy glasses, this looks very much like Phil is walking back the narrative. From having the most powerful (12 TF's I tell you) machine that has ray tracing and can play 4K and 8K at oodles of framerates, it's now about gamers having choice and rather wanting "optimal" settings.

I wonder if it's because they know the console wont beat the PS5 in upcoming comparisons? Just speculation, before a number of panties are destroyed in frantic knotting thereof.

Sony has a really strong Audio division, and at the moment it looks like the PS5 tempest audio could very well be better than Dolby Atmos, especially if their HRTF pans out.

Personally I could not care less about who has the biggest e-pe.. erm console and am glad they actually have a console targeted at people like me. TV only 1080p and could care 2 hoots about disks (Last bought a physical game back in 2012) As an old PC Gamer I'm also not gonna fork out R12K + for a console. I do like GamePass and the fact that I can run Kodi on the Xbox so there is that 2. So its more a price decision for me than brand name.

Honestly if the PS5 digital edition vs Xbox Series S tables where turned esp in price, I would have bought a PS5 DE and moved to Plex. In fact I think my PS3 game lib is bigger than my 360 one. (I skipped current gen cause of Real world)

I was even looking at current gen prices not so long ago but thought nope, I don't want to fork out money now for just 2 years support..

Speculation ... keep thinking that

I'm waiting for the All access deal here, if not then hopefully those shinny RTX 2.. gaming laptops will be cheaper since RTX 3 series :)
