(Bar the few mistakes the article had in it)Hmm. Engaging my blatant PS fanboy glasses, this looks very much like Phil is walking back the narrative. From having the most powerful (12 TF's I tell you) machine that has ray tracing and can play 4K and 8K at oodles of framerates, it's now about gamers having choice and rather wanting "optimal" settings.
I wonder if it's because they know the console wont beat the PS5 in upcoming comparisons? Just speculation, before a number of panties are destroyed in frantic knotting thereof.
I believe it stems from the fact MS knew they had to compete on two fronts. Performance and Price.
They started by developing the "Most powerful console " On paper it's definitely the more capable machine. That's been put to bed. But we're all waiting on next gen gameplay from both consoles before we or anyone can judge which is truly better performance wise. But as it stands the X has a clear advantage unless DF can prove otherwise with analysis. (I'm excited)
Then they went and dropped a $299 next gen console.
Basically having the cheapest and smallest next gen console and the "most powerful" (until disproved) console. So them focusing on CHOICE (Console,PC,Mobile) for the gamer coupled with solid value with All Access/GP/Xcloud is them just rounding off a tactic that's almost impossible to criticize.
I won't be surprised if GP subs hit 30 million next year.
MS is playing the long game. And are playing on a different field than Sony at this point.
Sony are currently stuck in the middle. They don't have the cheapest or the most powerful console. The two biggest factors that the PS4 had during launch over the Xbox One is now gone.
My opinion.
