REALLY Disappointing News About The Xbox Series S
REALLY Disappointing News About The Xbox Series S
I wish MS just did a Sony and chopped $100 off the price if you take a model without an optical drive. I would have bought a digital-only Series X, exactly like I'll be buying the digital-only PS5 eventually.
more worrying is that the SX runs at only 1080p/60REALLY Disappointing News About The Xbox Series S

I dont understand the reason for the series S and why anyone would buy that. Just stay then with your previous gen console, if you dont have one buy one secondhand, you can pick them up for 3.5k. If it cant even run games at 60fps on launch what is going to happen when more demanding games comes out the next few years?
I dont see the PS5 digital really as a budget version. My kids don't use disks, all their games is digital downloads, so when they get the PS5 it will be a waste not to buy the digital. Rather spend that extra 2k to expand storage
I've just remembered from DF Yakuza has 3 different modes on the SX, a 4K 30 mode, a 1440 60 (with occasional dips to 50fps) and 1080p 60 (with zero dips in fps) presumably on the SS it will have a 1440p 30 mode, a 1080p 60 mode (with occasional dips) and 900p 60 mode (zero dips in fps)If Rich stopped making click bait he would have had to go find a real job and actually do something for a living.
That said
I know pretty well what I am getting into buying an S. and I am not willing to fork out an extra R5000 just so I can have a bigger black box next to my 1080p TV. Worse, a black box that might see 2-6 hours of gaming in a week. I like GamePass Ultimate, I have a gaming PC I wanna dip my toes back into consoles, its like the Series S was made for me. Also if resolution was the only thing that mattered, people like me, would not build things like Recalbox on a Raspberry PI and never replay old games.
As for game dev concerns he is a tad late to the party... that news is sooo last month

I also suspect that the new consoles will have close to DLSS quality upscaling for the next gen games.
How you can expand Xbox Series X and Xbox Series X storage with USB 3.1 hard drives
As well as internal and external custom SSD solutions, traditional external USB 3.1 hard drives are also supported.
These drives can store and play Xbox backwards compatible games direct from the drive. If you have an external USB 3.1 drive on an Xbox One currently, that can be plugged into an Xbox Series X or S and work right away.
A USB 3.1 drive can also carry Xbox Series games as storage, which can be transferred to Series X or S's internal SSD or Storage Expansion Card to then be played.
That all sounds wonderful, except someone allready posted a link to a game where you have to go to 900p to just have 60fps, we not even talking 120fps hereI know that there's a lot of info in this thread, so I'll just state it again.
The CPU of the Series S is almost the same as the Series X, and is almost 4x as fast as the One X in single threaded performance, and more than 4x as fast in multi threaded performance.
The CPU is the important bit to enable games. The differences in GPU is less than 20% in frequency, the rest being shaders, which again is more important for higher resolutions. You still get ray tracing in the series S, again, just at a lower resolution.
If you dont have a 4K TV, or if you only have a 32" TV whereever you want to game, or your kid wants to game, you would have to be daft to buy the Series X over a Series S.
Hell, the Series S can do 120hz, so if you are predominantly a PC gamer with a 1080p 144hz display (or even a 1440p 144hz), why would you spend the extra R5K?
I also suspect that the new consoles will have close to DLSS quality upscaling for the next gen games.
Edit: This is what I expect. I personally wouldn't buy any hardware before reviews come out.
At this point the performance between the 3 next gen consoles and how they'll compare are unknown. We'll have to wait for Richard and Paul to give us they're analysis. I'm very excited to see them in action.I know that there's a lot of info in this thread, so I'll just state it again.

Do we have any word on what kind of resolution and frames we'll be getting on current or next gen consoles for Cyberpunk 2077?On an early preview.
Where the Series X runs mostly 1440p60, but has to do down to 1080p just to have a locked 60fps.
Yup, you read right. Looking at that game, the new R12 000 Xbox Series X is a 1080p60 console.
We would have to wait for a proper Series S review to see how well it holds 900p60, but for only 180 vertical pixels more R5 000 seems a bit steep.
Don't bring logic into this discussion. "$consoleOfChoice will support 120hz!" (Yet everyone fails to realize that most TV's are 60Hz and the consoles will have to try and run 1080p to get more than 60fps) . Throw buzz words and terms like "Ray Tracing" into the marketing material and everyone who heard about it once before wants to get it to be cool in front of their friends. We have been having RTX on PC for years, still have not had the need to get RTX capable cards. Don't worry however, Consoles have exclusives!!!Do not want to go all PC Master race on this but:
Even us PC gamers know Ray Tracing is a B + an itch. turn that sucker on and watch your high frames drop faster than the Economy during a pan... I mean the R vs dol... actually lets just say it drops and drops hard.
Personally I still see it as a useless money grab like the old 3D TV Tech from a couple of years back. We not really ready for full blown Ray's yet, later yes not right now. Hell even a 2080 that cost more than the Consoles alone has issues with it.... do you really think a R7-12K box gonna handle it better.
Sadly its the new "in" and sadly it makes the new systems look weaker than what they really are. No way we can build a PC spec'ed as a PS5 or Xbox Series S/X for the money they charging for em boxes, so there is loads of value just we killing it the "bit its not reflecting properly" or "look how low the frame count is" new buzz word.
